Actually, sources say it was a leap year when he was born (and passed away) and it all happened in Adar I and I read that Minhag Chabad is not to say Tachanun.

I'm pretty sure it was Adar Beis, though I can't account for what Lubavitch says.

And zayin adar is my birthday, so I'm keeping track!

I saw a sicha last week about celebratig 7 Adar in both Adars.

If someone has a birthday in Adar of a regular year, they should celebrate it in both Adars,(fulfilling the minhagim of Yom Holedes) because there are halachic opinions that consider the first Adar as the original one, and the second as the added on month.

Although for a Bar Mitzvah, it is observed during Adar II.
