Many years ago before I became kosher, I tasted something yummy in a seafood restaurant called "hushpuppies." I think it had a corn meal base and it was somewhere between a biscuit and a tater tot. Anyone have a recipe for that or something similar?

Hush puppies are basically deep fried cornmeal batter.
Here's a recipe from my old Joy of Cooking cookbook -- but I have never made them:
Mix:
1 c cornmeal
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2-3 Tablespoons minced onion
Beat together:
1 egg
1/2 c milk
Mix all and form into oblong cakes, about 2x4x3/4".
Deep fry until golden brown, drain on paper towels, serve at once.

Thanks, Rubber Ducky. That recipe sounds like it would work.

There's a great recipe on here...somewhere...for corn fritters, baked. (That's actually how I discovered Imamother! LOL) So look for something five years old.
