Do they have chickpeas in a dry form, as opposed to canned?

Red lentils. You can find them at non-Jewish groceries- and sometimes in bags at the kosher groceries. Use them to make yummy red lentil soup. Soak beans for 15 minutes in warm water. Meanwhile chop up and saute onions garlic carrots delete. Add 2 tablespoons tomato paste and some red wine. Then add lentils and some veggie stock or water and spices. Season with salt and a drop of pepper and cook about half an hour. A great 9 days recipe... loosely adapted from BY cookbook. You can also cook red lentils and white rice at the same time since they have the same cooking time of about 20 minute. Just add broth or lots of spices or saute an onion before adding the rice and lentils.
