What's your secret ingredient? For me, I use the spice Mrs. Dash on salads, chicken, eggs, etc. What's your secret ingredient?

My now-not-secret ingredients are cinnamon or allspice for meatballs,
kal kugel for yerushalmi kugel (also great for cholent).
I must also confess I use Goodman's onion soup mix on meat, soup, hatzilim etc.

I don't think I have one but I do own every spice that there is available almost and I use them all! I think the trick is fresh, good quality ingredients more than one spice or addition.

Actually many people try to avoid MSG as much as possible. I would never add it to my food at home & I try to avoid it out as much as possible.

If a recipe calls for coffee powder, try Taster's Choice French Vanilla.

Garlic. You can much less salt in many dishes by added/increasing garlic.

Most people use chicken soup mix which usually has msg.

Yea, have you seen kosher cookbooks lately? Every recipe calls for soup mix. It's almost like we've forgotten how to impart flavor without chemicals.

These days it's pretty easy to find soup mixes without MSG (but, I must admit, I don't use much soup mix, I'd rather use real food & spices to achieve flavor- I have yet to find a recipe that really needs soup mix)

for veg, soups: sauteed onion. chicken soup: parsnips, fresh dill or cilantro. and enough chicken.
for cholent: the gravy from the baked chickens.
for gefilte fish - let it cook out till it not quite burns - carmelizes on bottom, but still moist.

It's basically caramelised sugar syrup. Comes in a plastic bottle, made in Israel, lasts looong time without regrigeration. No need to burn the pot and scrub it to clean any more.
For chicken soup: I also add dills and tarragon in a meshbag after it finish cooking. Impart great flavour.
For rice: safran. Expensive but can't substitute for lovely golden orangish yellow colour and aroma.
