Wow sounds like a huge recipe I would cut it in half or you'll be shaping them all day... the kids get bored after a few minutes and you're left with the work

I just made half the recipe. I was surprised because at first the dough was really crumby. I was tempted to add a little more liquid but instead I smushed it all together and it all sort of held together. I see why the amount of margarine seemed so suprising when I was putting together the dough. Usually I'll have a cookie recipe with this amount of margarine but there's more sugar as well so when I followed my usual way of creaming the margarine with the sugar and then adding vanilla, egg and then the flour I first thought I was doing the recipe wrong as at first it seems way too liquidy. Then after adding the flour it seems too crumbly, go figure. I stuck it in the fridge and I hope it really is easy to work with!

When do you put in the margarine?
Did you do this in a mixer or by hand?

Just a suggestion which you can take or ignore:
I personally have an easier time with recipes that have:
1. ingredients listed in order of appearance
2. complete instructions as well as any useful tips like the ones you just added about it being mushy and about using a stand mixer.
I did the cookies by hand (I don't own a stand mixer) and now I see how that might have changed the outcome of the cookie batter, although it's interesting you're saying you got a mushy dough and mine ended up crumbly. Interesting.

Its not my recipe
BASIC COOKIE DOUGH:
4 cups of flour
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
3/4 cup oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon water or juice
4 teaspoon baking powder
Mix well (it might be a little greasy but its fine)
work into a dough ( I find it a bit crumbly with ww but its fine keep sticking it together)
I don't use a rolling pin, just mash down with my hands.
Use cookie cutters
place shapes on the pan
decorate how you want
bake 350 about 10 minutes
take out before you think its baked. ( it is baked but it looks not quite brown yet)
Then a few minutes later after it cools u have a lovely soft cookie made with fun and love.
