Years ago when I was in the hospital I enjoyed the incredible kindness of Satmar BC. I also really enjoyed their vegetable soup. It was a very simple one- basically all kinds of veggies in a tasty liquid. No barley or other grains, no tomatoes. Jist veggies, but really delicious. Does anyone have the recipe? (Why don't they do a cookbook??)

Why don't you call them to ask for it?

A while ago the mishpacha had an article about them and included this recipe. You can ask them for it from the archives.
Please post it if you get it!

It may also have been the delicious feeling of being cared for that made it so good

you might have to settle by asking if anyone has a good ol' Hungarian style hearty vegetable soup recipe.

I make a similar recipe but I don’t have exact measurements.
Sauté an onion or two and some crushed or diced garlic until translucent. Add a bunch of cubed root vegetables like carrots, potatoes, sweet potato, parsnip, knob celery, and also some squash (any type). Add water leaving two inches at the top, and some salt to taste. Let it come to a boil and then simmer for 2-3 hours. Blend halfway.
For knockerlach, make a thick paste of flour, an egg, seltzer and salt. Drop a tablespoon of the mixture at a time into the boiling soup (must be a rolling boil).
