I prefer Mirel (Polish Yiddish) or even Merle (German Yiddish) because Meryl looks like the non Jewish name - UNLESS you do it on purpose to use as a secular and as a religious name.
It is a pet form of Miriam. Although to some it would come from Judeo Spanish name Mirella, which is either a pet form of Miriam or http://www.behindthename.com/p.....rella

Mera is a family name of ours. Im guessing Meryl is from the same name. I will try an find out what it means.
And lately I have heard of a few Mira's.
