My mother called me Motsei shabbos, evidently on shabbos (she is not shomer shabbos), there was a news program that advertised about this story.
Evidently a man in canada, got bored one day and posted on craigs list in the barter section, a red paper clip.
He got a trade of a fish pen...and slowly slowly, bartered up to a HOUSE!
Can you imagine such a thing??? Would something like this work in our community?

Yes, he traded up to a years free rental in a house I think in Arizona. I don't think he lived in Arizona before. So I would say he is probably quite flexible and no, if you limit yourself to only trading within your community you will probably not get that far.
I think I remember reading that he is planning to keep trading until he gets his own property. Something like that.
Good for him!

He got the property!!!
He traded the rental for, one on one time with a member of KISS
he traded the one on One for a snowglobe
A director of films, happens to collect them, and he traded the snowglobe for a talking role in a movie!
A community (I cannot remember where), gave the guy a house.. So that the community could hold auditions forthe talkiong role!!

Cool!!!
The last few trades were probably made a lot easier by the publicity.

It wouldn't work in our community b/c jews bottom line all look for metziah's. I dont think ANYBODY would trade ANYTHING for a red paper clip!!!!It's just our natures. I know this is a huge generalization and that I'll probably be attacked for it, but bottom line, u all know it's somewhat true, even though there are plenty of people not like that individually.

I think it could work on a small level... There are always people looking to abuse a system, but if it's just a small group.. I think it would be neat
I am sure my daughter would trade a picture that she drew with another girl from another country! That would be sooo neat!

actually, I was re-thinking this alittle - on the other hand, we are also known to be the most giving nation of the world. If somebody NEEDED a house, and was trying to get it via bartering a red paper clip, all the baalei chessed would be happy to try to assist via the bartering system.
So go figure....

Well.... I posted on craigslist.org this morning (under the barter section) "RED PAPER CLIP."
LOL, I've already received an offer for a local baseball cap, roll of paper towels and a cheese burger
