Naturally a people pleaser, though learned a little with time. Tell me how you learned & what you do to be more assertive?

One trick, is to be calm and not emotional. Also, I find it easier to stick up for a friend. So I pretend I'm a friend.

As above. Tell me about an album you can play in repeat.

Took me too long to respond. This was responding to Dankbar.

Well, I’m still a work in progress. But I’ve been working with both a CBT and regular talk therapist and they have been wonderfully helpful. Number one what has helped for me is recognizing that being assertive is NOT being mean. That was huge for me.

When I first started working on assertiveness (on my own), and stood up for myself it seemed to backfire tremendously. I was very firm with someone and it was a really rough time for them (I hadn’t known how bad) and I felt terribly guilty for years afterwards. When I brought this up in therapy, my therapist was able to explain to me that I was not wrong and had no need for the guilt. She explained to me that while I’m working on it, I’ll be more extreme at the beginning and that’s okay. I’ll slowly get to a healthy medium and it’s okay.

Anyway, obviously it’s so much more than that but that was super enlightening to me. And realizing that you’ll never please everyone anyway.

It’s still hard for me to feel like I’ve made others uncomfortable but I use a lot of self talk and tell myself it’s not about me. It’s them.

Anyway, it’s so much more than that. Come pick my brain through private messaging if you’d like 😊

Tell me, if you’re comfortable, what are you most proud of.

Hey singleagain—I’ve also got depression! Mine seems to be medically induced (on hormonal meds for my breast cancer treatment) but also possibly nature induced. I call myself the depressed optimist. CBT has helped me tremendously!

Anyway, store brand versus brand power. As I get older, I find myself buying more no-name brands. But sometimes they just can’t compare to the original. 🤷🏻‍♀️ got to be savvy when shopping

Yeah. Mine is Def chemical, bc if I miss my meds... It's bad. But was triggered during my marriage... Truth is I've had anxiety since I was a kid... Just like my bunions.

I'm really proud that I got a full time job. That I really enjoy. And the stability that comes with.

Tell me about your first solo trip

I’m super impressed that you have a job. I’ve been thinking about getting a job in my field for the last thirteen years but can’t say I’ve been seriously working on it... I have been working just kind of doing whatever lands on me... still figuring out what I want to be when I grow up!

Hmm my first solo trip wasn’t exactly solo but with my kids so even more impressive than solo 😉. Driving from Boston to NY. I felt like superwoman!

It makes me think of my little guy who recently decided to go vegan... or vegetarian... or something and it’s driving me bonkers but I do try to give my kids space to explore so I’m respectfully learning and watching (he’s only seven)

Most things in life are a repeated vicious cycle so ye, one problem builds on another, which gets you exactly to square one again....

ever had a medicine that was supposed to cure one thing but created a new host of problems with the side effects which had you in a deeper rut....

so what came first or next, makes no difference?

Tell me if you had a chicken egg experience

Simon Whistler explains it best

And yes. I totally agree. In my sociology class. We learned half the chicken lays an egg out of which hatches the other half of the chicken... It's not that's clear cut

My depression is like that. Its harder to manage when I can't get out and have structure. But not having structure makes it harder to get out.
