The article says water related incident. It wasn't a drowning. Maybe the family doesn't want the spicifics out there.

Vacation and going boating is fine.
Perhaps there should be awareness spread about the issur of mixed gender bathing. Many ppl are unaware.

For sure. Now's not that time, though.

And speaking of Meron, I also remembered this: https://theazifoundation.org/azis-story/

These kinds of painful losses are not the al kiddush Hashem of soldiers or terror attacks,Hy"d, but they can certainly be catalysts to increase kiddush Hashem in the world.

We don’t even know if todays tragedy involved a drowning. For all we know it may have been a motor accident or water sport etc….
Let’s try to do our hishtadlus and daven Hashem should keep us all safe.

Here's the thing: Had it been a drowning (apparently it was not), again, the lesson shouldn't have been safety, though that's certainly something to bring up at the right time. These freak accidents, tragic untimely deaths that we've seen these last few years (and I know that we have members plural with connections) are not just individual tragedies. It's more than just if one finger of the body of klal Yisrael is hurting we all hurt, though that's certainly something to aspire to feel. These are national wake-up calls and I think that every community and individual needs to do some serious thinking. May we be granted the hadrachah to do what we need to do and may it lead to an increase in kiddush Hashem and ahavas Yisrael.

Thanks!
And I also want to add, that yes, we should feel sad, but these feelings shouldn't be debilitating and we should be able to do this hard work with optimism and a measure of menuchah and at some point even simchah that we are growing and moving in the right direction, whether or not we see yeshuos.

Red, it’s really unkind to be speculating about that on a public forum like this. We’re talking about a real family. Not quoting so that you can delete your post.

I don’t think it’s her fault for saying that. Another poster inadvertently implied something like that. Sometimes when people are so vague, it leads people to speculate. Perhaps if someone’s not going to give the actual details, they shouldn’t hint.

Something happened with him not being able to breathe. I don't think anything to do with the water. Just came back from the heartwrenching levaya where Rabbi Ralbag said a misa due to not breathing is a misas neshika. May Hashem comfort the family 😪😪😪 he was such a special person, so pleasant and unassuming and beautiful in his ways.

He was swimming and told his family that he was finding it hard to breathe. He lost consciousness but was wearing a life vest and his family brought him back to their boat where CPR was performed. He did not drown. It was likely a heart attack but there's no way to know.
I was at the shiva & this is what the family members are saying.
