We dont eat from shkiya till a half hour after we light but I do give the kids to eat. Theyre little under 5yo
We usually also do a project together while my husband says his things

Husb says his things and sings. Kids either sit with him or go off and do their own th9ng. When he gets up to dance, some come running, others don't. He wishes everyone would participate but I keep telling him that he's saying too much between lighting and dancing so they find other things to do. I try to have a craft or activity to do together while we're waiting but didn't happen every night

We light, sing Maoz Tzur and then have supper in another room. Little people and fire don't mix. I'm a nervous wreck until the last flame goes out, and I'm not by nature a nervous person. Ein somchin al hanes, and any time you have a multiplicity of flames and a multiplicity of youngsters--or even just one youngster, really--it's a nes that the house isn't set afire.
