I am almost very sure that Sharons was the very last shop on that row.

Remember Moses supermarket? Mr Moses was the father of the woman (can't recall her name - was it Sharon????) who owned Sharons. He ran the supermarket with his sons. Or maybe the sons ran the bakery too. They were an Adeni family who actually lived in Hendon or GG.

Once, when I was very young, I was sent to buy some baked beans from Moses supermarket. I picked up a can and went to pay, to be informed by Mr Moses that my family did not eat that hechsher.

Sharon's was owned by Bentzi Nassim, son of Moses. Smadar, daughter of Moses worked in the office at the back of the supermarket.
Sangram, the Indian looking guy was the manager.

Yes. You are correct on all.

Thank you.
Book shops are my weakness, I can go in to treat myself to one book and come out with two or three, not exactly cheap but money well spent I guess!

[quote="amother Aubergine"]And the tramp whom we called yankel the shlepper…

I don't personally remember Yankel the shlepper, but I remember an old lady who used to wander around near Grodzinski's asking people for 10p; I heard that she was a very clever lady but sadly dementia struck.

I remember her from when I was very little and sadly, she was never a well person. People claimed that she was Jewish. She used to buy a tea/coffee at Grodz .

I definitely remember Leibish's shop, Craven Park stores I think it was called, and yes I also remember Sonny Patel's shop, I used to buy birthday cards and women's magazines there, when they weren't full of trash that is!

Until they went up to 12p, and then 14...I loved those! I think I bought ours from Nash Chemist though.

I remember getting 50p pocket money and being able to buy an ice cream cone (42p) and those black licorice sticks full of pink or orange sugar.
