Sleepless, don't you realize that out of 3,000 plus members on imamother, only a handful posted their hair pics? That means that the rest of the forum members' kids have 'uchy' hair!! Rolling Eyes (ya' gotta' see my prince's hair - copper color, cascading down in soft curls...I just don't know how to post it)

Wise Snap gives 5 X 7 photos, but, hey Chayitty, I don't want us to open your eyes; you just go ahead and charge a total of $50 for 10 sheets of 8 X 10, with no sitting fee, and we'll all become your customers!!

Chayitty, this woman was a doll - she was patient - I changed my son once, changed his hairdo, she changed props and sceneries constantly - I wish you can see my pictures; they are stunning (then again, my kids are somethin' else - ain't I humble?)!
I hate to say it, but I don't like packages that give you several different sized sheets of the same pose. When I go to a photographer my goal is not to get as many copies of the same pose for all grandparents, uncles, aunts, neighbors, friends, mailman, milkman, etc. I want different poses. That's what I dislike about the chain store photography deals too. I've done them in the past - I have zillions of copies of the same pose stashed away with nobody interested in them.

the reason for the package is its like a bonus for the sitting fee...
besides for that I have prices for indivudual pictures...$10 an 8-10..$6 a 5-7...$3 (and less if u order a lot) a 4-6..and $7 8 wallets
ofcourse there r larger sizes as well and some costume stuff..like compsites...and shtick..ect..

I had a very interesting hashgacha pratis story with the photos fee. If anybody wants to hear about it, lemme know....
than you DOwn's. thanks to your recommendation I am keeping my appt. with Wise Snap, and I'm going to budget some money from my ebay earnings for extra pics.[/quote]

Okay, I now have to share that story with you, after Mama Bear's comment about budgeting for the photo shoot.

In the days leading up to our photography session, we were very excited and talked a lot about it. My daughter and I were throwing around numbers of how much our package might come to, in the $300 range, give or take a few dollars, and my husband was disturbed. We were then 'pinkt' going through a little temporary crunch (we run a yeshiva and every time the yeshiva is short, we dip into our personal monies and dump everything into the yeshiva's account; that is what happened then too) and my husband said that he does not agree to the pictures coming to $300; we should limit ourselves. I said okay but I knew it would be agony.
A few days before the shoot my daughter was coming home from the supermarket and she suddenly spied a wallet on the ground a few steps ahead of her. A [gentile] was going to reach for it (it wasn't his; he also just noticed it at that moment) and my daughter got to it first. She picked it up, examined it, and saw that there was $320 cash inside, with no ID. She went into the supermarket and inquired whether anybody lost it - nopes. She walked around the block to a medical center and inquired there - nopes. She brought it home; we examined it; it didn't look Jewish. It had some telltale signs of belonging to a [gentile], but we nontheless placed several ads in local newspapers and hung up notices around the area where my daughter found it. Nobody came forward for it. Guess what we did with the money? You got it!! Upsherin photos!

chayitty, I'm also in the 'market' for upsherin pictures.

what will your pricing be like? (actually, to be perfectly honest, I had in mind to ask you if you would do pics for me before I heard about your studio. your pics are amazing)

I think it's sinful to spend hundreds of dollars aon photos (especially when pple nowadays mamash don't have money for food, etc - just my personal feeling. noone has to agree with me) so I'm just wondering.....

re: studio photos and going to sears: I really dislike props in photos. I think it detracts something from the kid being the attraction. so maybe sears and jcpenny aren't such bad ideas.

mma Bear - I'm with you. That's why I go to Sears or Picture people. I think you get gorgeous pictures there too, obviously not as great as the private studios, but I just can't justify spending so much on a picture of him that he won't look like anymore in a few weeks.

Good for you chayitty!

I really would love to open a studio, but nowhere near enough experience. I plan on starting by taking outdoor upsherin pics. I'm gonna start with my nephew in a couple weeks. (I'll put up the pics if I can get good feedback). And hopefully I can slowly build up a reputation that way.

My problem is that I'm not confident enough to charge money yet. Sad

ladies, on the spur of the moment I ended up doing pics today at Fraidy Kaufman. I'm so happy!!!! she spent 1 1/2 hours with me, and I get 18 pictures for $65.00. My son didnt cooperate at first but then my mother came over and witha n extra set of hands we Bh got some ADORABLE shots!!!! I am so so happy. (WiseSnap is $100 for 7 pics and she gives you 20 minutes.) I'm so happy for the money I saved. Fraidy is amazing. Unfortuantely she is booked til the summer, she was a doll to push me in today from 1 second to the next. yaya! all done!

Yay!
You did it so early?

My son's upsherin was on a Sunday- last year Lag B'omer. I took some really great shots like a week before, but I did another shoot on the Friday before the haircut.
And I still felt bad that I didn't get professional looking pics THE DAY OF, and have to consider the ones from a week before as the "official" long hair pics.

Well gamzu, you know my timeline... his upsherin is IYh about 5 weeks after my due date so I didnt want to schedule it for any later than 36w pg. My original appt was June 22, and I'm SO HAPPY IT ALREADY GOT DONE. With my SILs wedding coming up, apartment hunting, and a gazillion OB appts, I'm glad one more thing is over and done with. He's only 3 months away from the upsherin, I will take some of my own shots with my camera right beforeh is upsherin at home to showcase his loooooooooooong hair. but professional portraits had to be done before the summer.

I cant wait to see them iyh!
