I cannot picture a gift as something the kalla would have to buy anyway, like a coffee machine (most young people dont drink coffee today) or a blender or can opener. I think gifts should be those things you would not buy yourself. Like a pretty serving dish, found easily at Marshalls or any nice home accessory that is different, original, and pretty. Sometimes I try to get a dish with pictures of pears, or match box holders and write "the perfect pair" or "What a match" on the card.
Who wants gifts that are necessities? Gifts should be whimsical.

I mostly help poor kallahs outfit their homes.
Don't ask how many young couples get married without fleishige pots, or some such.
