What do you think of mock weddings?
I love them! Think they're a great idea.

I don't really care, but I think they're harmless.

I'm a little weirded out by the idea, but I guess I've gotten used to it.

The story about the ring and needing a Get has been around for a long time. I must have heard it at least 40 years ago. Maybe it's the same story and it actually happened (you would think that at some point in the last few thousand years it would have) or maybe it's an urban legend.

It's in a teshuva by R' Moshe, but slightly different. My husband showed it to me. Something along the lines of a teenage boy handed out cans of Pepsi to a bunch of girls and said something like, "All you **** belong to me."

My 5 year old tells me they do this in recess. They all do each others hair and put water on their faces for makeup and then the kallah is the one with the fanciest hairdo. Then they all dance a lot. And that is the end.

So, playing hair/makeup and dancing is what it is all about.

First time I heard of mock wedding

I don’t live in Lakewood needless to say

What in tarnation does Lakewood have to do with anything? We had mock weddings in playgroup and in camp and in school when I was growing up, and I grew up nowhere near Lakewood.

B"H our extended family has had a few weddings in recently and another coming up. My 7 year old daughter loves talking about the ones she went to, and the one that is coming up, what is she going to wear etc. She loves the dressing up and getting her hair done and the whole fancyness of it all. She loves reading the Hachai book - I go to a wedding, over & over. For most people it is not a common event and is a big thing, so I can imagine if they did it camp it would be a great vibe. We never did it, but I have heard many others who did.
