Good morning all!
What a busy couple of days! It's really early, but I can't sleep. Too much to do!
Thanks so much for all the responses.
So, to those who said too much food: Yes, for sure. We aren't planning on serving all of this, these are just the dishes we were choosing from. Though we do need to serve a lot of food. We're expecting approximately 50 people at this shindig. Does anyone have experience serving such a crowd? How much food do we need?
Here's the latest permutation of the menu:
Starter: Nachos (served with sour cream, guacamole, salsa), salad, garlic bread
Soup: French onion
Main: Mini pizzas, basil pasta, fettachini alphrado, penne vodka, mini quiches, morracan talapia, green beans.
dessert: cheesecake, ice cream bar
I wish the menu was more health conscious, lighter, and less cheesy, but there is no help for it. My immediate family eats very healthfully, but I've been overruled. The extended family wants LOTS OF GOOEY CHEESY PASTA!
What do you think?
Any ideas to elevate this menu to increase the wow/fancy-ness factor? Any plating suggestions? The main course will be served buffet style, and so will the ice cream bar, but the starter, soup and cheesecakes will be plated.

Last time I made pizza, I rolled it up and sliced it. It was really yummy and much easier and faster. I would totally serve a bunch of these on a bed of roasted vegetables.

Are you making the mini pizzas from scratch? Fold them over to make calzones before baking. And/or use fresh basil and fancy cheese.

Mains is more elegant if u have waiter going around serving French style instead of putting on buffet table. NACHOS is nice plated. The salad & garlic knots u can put into bowl/basket in center of table so you don't overwhelm the starter plate, or bring in the basket of knots right before serving the soup. I don't think 3 pastas are needed I think 2 is enough.

Raisin, there are ready made mini pizza doughs that taste really good. DVMOM they're made by Mazor's or Yitzy;s or Jglatt. Look in the freezer.

You can skip the pizzas and make a pasta bar!
If you can get elagent chaffing dishes it can look really nice!
Have several types of pastas in different shapes ( white, whole wheat, you can even do a lentil pasta etc...) - cook pasta to El dente and add a little oil so it doesn't stick in the chaffing dishes or bowl
Several warm sauces: vodka sauce, white cheese sauce, pesto, cheddar cheese sauce
And parmesan for sprinkling
And different sauteed or roasted veggies to mix in. Onion, eggplant, mushroom, pepper etc...
And everyone can assemble their own customized dish.
Make sure everything has nice signs (you can print chalkboard style etc...)
The pasta bar should be on its own table, separate from the other mains - fish, quiche etc...
Search Pinterest for ideas:)
Good luck and mazel tov!
