Last night I logged on just after yom tov here, when it was still yom tov in the states. I saw someone who lists herself as living in the US had just posted a message. BUT could be she is in another country at that time - israel or Europe. Just because I for example, list myself as living in Europe doesn't mean I never go to another timezone. Be dan lkaf zechus!!! And if this poster happened to be posting on shabbos, so, obviously she is not (yet) shomer shabbos. Getting all hot and bothered and upset will not accomplish anything.
If you want this website to be closed when it is shabbos anywhere it would need to be closed from friday morning until sunday! (at least)

What if the 'post reply' system would be keyed in to wherever the person lives, and not allow someone to post during the time it is Shabbos or YomTov for their timezone? similarly to the way it doesn't allow you to post till you are logged in. (Not that posting would be the only problem).
I could see how someone could get around that, if they change the time and date settings on their computer, but there's got to be a way that it would work. The administration is capable of figuring something out.

I agree with rivky, in that, what if there are women on this site that are not yet shomer shabbat? why cant they post when they do? it will only turn ppl off of frumness if you were to stop the posting when it was shabbat.....

Isn't helping a Jew do an aveira on Shabboss a problem?
If someone replies to your post and is mechalel Shabboss in the process, you have caused her chillul Shabboss.
Given the specifics of imamother, this is a situation of chillul Shabboss BeFarhesya - desecrating the Shabboss in PUBLIC.
I think that if someone travels to another time zone and their posts look like they are on Shabboss, they should explain - just like when posting as amother. Otherwise, it is just Maras Ayin - appearing that they are doing an Aveira.

Yup, Mommy912, you've got a point. Quite a problem. I wonder how other Jewish boards handle this... Like for example AskMoses.

Askmoses shuts down for Shabbos. I'm not sure of the exact times, but I think it's NY times, at least when I log on and off.
I wasn't Judging anyone; just asking.
I thought it was a prerequisite that all posters be religious? I had to answer all kinds of questions to join, ones I would not have known the answers to otherwise..

SaraG, If it is worth anything, I don't think you did anything wrong by asking the question. Many of us are curious about that and it doesn't mean we are accusing someone or trying to be mean to someone. It is just interesting when we assume that everyone on this site is frum and then we see people who seem like they are logging on on shabbos.

Just want to point out - my profile says I'm on the East Coast of U.S. - but I have gone for long periods of time to the Far East with a 12 hr. time dif. - you really never know where somebody is.
Also Shabbos sometimes starts/ends really late/early in dif. places.
Yet I have wondered myself sometimes.

um... I do not think AskMoses closes down, nor does chabad.org
Not from my own experience, but from family members. They always call and say I checked on ... webpage to see when it is safe to call. There are people that every day do not keep shabbos, and they use those webpages to help respect those that do. As a BT, honestly I appreciate when my family does that! My kids get so excited when grandma or an uncle, etc etc call (though the ringer is usually off) the machine is not!
Please do not judge people, and remember if someone on here is not quite ready to take on being Shomer Shabbos. By being judgemental we are giving them a very bad taste in their mouths about frum women. While on the contrary we are probably the best people to go to for advice on becoming more frum!
Just my thoughts

sarag was entitled to note her observation - I, too, have wondered this a couple of times. (ex - someone who's in America, posted Shabbos AM or afternoon...)
It's ridiculous to start closing site for a couple of days. We all know the level we're on and if someone feels that they must post on shabbos, that's something they have to worry about - NOT US. To the person who said maybe we should close site because we're ENABLING her to be m'chalel shabbos, I don't think there's anything wrong with this site being open on Shabbos. It's the posters decision when she wants to post. No one is forcing her to post on Shabbos.

Personally, I think it's a shailoh for a Rav. To technological appearances the system runs on automatic, but still, it isn't so clear whether or not there is a situation of aiding or abbetting chillul Shabbos,
Come to think of it, since EY is 7 hours ahead, when I try to log on to arutz sheva on Friday afternoon, something is different. (haven't done it for a long time, and don't remember how, but I think there is a message posted about 2-3 pm. that just wishes everyone a good Shabbos.)
Of course that's different because it's a news site, covered by actual reporters, who are not reporting on Shabbos. And presumably the server companies in Israel are Jewish owned and (hopefully) Shomer Shabbos.
About askmoses, the contradiction bet. SaraG and Mitzvahmom's posts can be solved. Probably you cannot post, even though the website is accessible.

I haven't been on askmoses on shabbos itself, but it closes down before shabobs/yomtov, and stays closed for a while afterwards, possibly to give their advisors some time to get ready, etc.
at those times, I think you can just leave a message and access their archives.

When I log on on Motzai Shabbos (after getting the kids to bed, washing the dishes, clearing up) there are hardly any posters on because it's still Shabbos in America. And I see posters, who I never had any doubt are Shomer Shabbos who posted at 2 or 3 in the morning on Shabbos, my time.

If they live and are posting from the West Coast, then it is still not Shabbos for them. 2am Israel time is only 4pm California time.

But that would be 4 PM Shabbos afternoon, not Friday afternoon. (California time)
actually, I see what you mean, you are talking about 2am Shabbos morning. Licht benchen is about 7:40 in California now? so that means that when it's 2 am in Israel, it's 7:00 pm in NY, and 4 PM in California, so yes it makes perfect sense.

That's what I was trying to say. E.g. now on the forum it says (my time) that Tefila posted at 2.34 a.m. on Friday. (While my husband was at Tikun Leil already ...) I was just saying that you have to take time difference into account.
And, please don't close down imamother when it's Shabbos in NY.
