Maybe because there were 10X as many people there than restrictions allow and they were worried about not being able to control an unruly mob which might be hostile to police presence.

The police blocked off the exit!

"We were at the entrance, we decided we wanted to get out and then the police blocked the gate, so whoever wanted to get out could not get out. In that hurry we fell on each other, I thought I was going to die," said an eyewitness to Maariv. "I saw people dead next to me."

BARUCH HASHEM!!! I'm SO happy for you!!! What a relief!
I was going to try and help u out and ask you your brother's name and ask my husband who is now still in Meron - he's an EMT and staff member of Zaka, so he's working hard on both fronts - nebbach with the injured and lhbd'l the niftarim, but my husband told me he isn't allowed to give out any information.

May we share only simchas and besuros tovos, be'h.

Thank you! Hug Hug sending you hugs and love and lot's of courage to deal with this. Hashem should send your husband and all other medical personal strength to be able to recover from this.

Why would the police put up a barricade and cause worse overcrowding?

I'm not sure if this was the case, but the Toldos Aharon Rebbe shli'ta and his brother the Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok Rebbe shli'ta are both Kohanim.
The Kohanim may not go the regular way like the people who aren't Kohanim b/c it passes the Kevarim of Rashbi, his son - Reb Elozor, and Reb Yochanan haSandler. Kohanim may not go next to a meis.
A special bridge - open passageway made of metal was built years ago for the Kohanim to pass through, and the places where the Rebbes of these 2 chassidus light the hadlakah with their chassidim is far behind the actual Kever Rashbi. So they are not near a meis.

From what I was told this bridge was wet. why? I don't know. and people was packed on the bridge and couldn't move even if they wanted to, and please note: the people weren't only the chassidim of these 2 Rebbes, most were not connected to both chassidus but pushed forward to see the hadlakahs.
Now the bridge was wet and thus got slippery and people started sliding down with a force (it's built with a slight slope) and people fell one on the other and crushed those underneath them, and then the bridge collapsed!!!
Hashem Yeracheim!!!!

There is poor cellphone reception on Har Meron. For those of you who are having trouble getting through to family members who attended the event, please don't assume the worst if you can't get through.

Several hospitals opened hotlines for people to search for family and friends who may have been injured; Galilee: 04-9850505, Ziv: 04-6828838 and Poriya: 04-6652211.

If calling from abroad, start with 972 and omit the leading 0.

Amein! Thank you!
Believe me, the wives of medical personnel and Zaka members and vols., even though they aren't at the scene, also need all the chizuk they can get. They have to be there for their husbands when the husband comes home after seeing horrific things. The wives worry about their husbands if they are fine where they are at the scene.
Once, by a terror attack r"l, my husband was running to an ambulance with a wounded person on a stretcher, when suddenly BOOM!! a second bomb exploded 2 meters in front of my husband. He had a neis he wasn't injured from it.
I don't mean to c'v sound selfish. Of course my heart breaks at what happened and for the families of the wounded and niftarim. I really feel for them. I burst out crying when I heard what happened.
After all, Klal Yisrael is one big family.

I don't disagree. I just posted because many people here are worried about friends and family who attended the event.

I assumed that there are very few Toldot Aharon women here, so maybe it would calm people down once they realized that the probability of their husbands (chas v'shalom) being among the niftar are lower than they might have initially thought.

My apologies, I edited out the quote because it looked like I was taking issue with you. It makes sense you were posting for the purpose of helping people out with the information. I just was upset by the tone of the article (which of course you didn't write!).

No need to apologize! The article was tacky. I just added the link to document what I was saying, so people knew it wasn't some rumor I heard third-hand from some random whatsapp group, etc.

Heart Heart hashem should protect our amazing hatzolah/zaka volunteers and give them strength. You and all wives are true tzedeikos and have a tremendous zechus. I don't know how it's possible to recover from such a thing. I'm sure the entire family gets effected when the husband/father witness such horror.

Due to the many people in the United States that are frantically trying to contact loved ones who were in Meron and have been unable to locate them, Misaskim has opened their command center to try and assist people.

Please call 718-854-4548 ONLY if you are missing an immediate family member and need assistance
