On the weeks that I make gefile fish, I usually either fry it sliced, or boil it in a fish broth.
Love to try something different this shobbos (but not too hard) Any ideas?

bake it! I defrost it a little, take off the wrapper and put it on a greased cookie sheet. spinkle w/ some sugar and paprika.
bake at 350' first uncovered for 25 minutes, then covered for 25 minutes. that's it!
this is the ONLY way I make g. fish!

I made real homemade gefilta fish this week! I am so excited to see how it turns out . My Dh likes it sliced (while mostly frozen) and then baked uncovered with spices so that it gets a little crispy on the top.

We like baked--defrost a loaf, mix with chopped onions (critical if you like sweet gefilte fish), and optionally chopped carrots and or celery; and add in one egg. Bake at 350* about an hour, til set and slightly browned.

Here's a great and easy way to make gefilte fish:
Sautee onions till golden.
place unwrapped loaf of fish in baking pan filled with about 1/2 inch water.
place sauteed onions on fish.
bake uncovered on 350 till fish is ready.
P.S. You can even throw in a carrot ot two!

There are salmon gefilte fish rolls too. A different taste, yet same texture. Look for it in your freezer section of your grocery. If they don't have it, call Ossie's in Brooklyn (Boro Park). They'll freeze it and send it to you.

I've baked it with spices on top (garlic powder, onion powder, pepper and paprika) or Kosher by design has a nice easy recipe which is a little fancier. It uses 3 rolls of fish - 2 regular and a salmon. defost them and mix on of the regular with dill and then layer them in a round pan (I've seen it done in a loaf pan too) and bake it. I guess you could look there for the exact instructions.

whenever I make this recipe everyone LOVES it!
Pour one small can of tomato sauce over fish roll(s)
drizzle ketchup over tomato sauce
put fried onions on top
bake on 350 uncovered for an hour and 15 minutes- an hour and a half
(one onion is enough for the fried onions)

this is my mother's recipe and everyone loves it;
saute onion until golden, add sliced peppers one yellow green and red (can buy frozen peppers already sliced) saute a few more minutes, put in juice of one lemon, some black pepper and salt, add one can of tomatoe sauce, until it boils, then pour it on fish roll (w/ paper off) put it in the oven covered at 350 for an hr n' half and uncovered for one more hour
