If we are talking about the same story the 5 year old that died from only wearing a seat belt was bec the woman driving was texting on her phone and drove in the wrong lane.
So there's more to the story then just a 5 yr old in a seatbelt.

And that’s exactly why a child needs to be restrained PROPERLY for their age and size!!

The point remains, we buckle up kids safely so that they stay alive in the event of the accident. It was a car accident he wouldn't die in a booster. He was killed with the seat belt snapping his neck, the exact reason we must use boosters.

Had he been properly buckled in a booster or 5 point harness, he may very well have been alive today whether the driver was texting and drove in the wrong lane or not!

So there's more to the story then just a 5 yr old in a seatbelt. | It was a bad post the first time, it's still a bad post the second time. You're saying that if there wasn't a crash then the kid wouldn't have died. But by the same token there's no need to use seatbelts at all.

It is obviously a few posters who are vocal about following the safely standards and go on about how can the safety of our kids not be the most important…when what I see in reality is completely different. What I see is kids start sitting in front seat from about age 10. And kids are out of boosters from about age 4,5. I’m not saying at all that that this is what I agree with. I’m saying this is what I see. This is just the reality. If I’d make my kid sit in a booster past age 6 (one poster said her 9 yr old is still in a booster!!) then it’s literally be social suicide for that kid. Let me repeat this is what I see, not what necessarily makes sense to me. So I just laugh at these threads because They’re always the same with just a few vocal posters who scare away everyone else. Maybe they live out of town and these rules are followed the way they should be there- I wouldn’t know. |
Sorry but I care more about my kids being alive than some made up social status.
And my 11 year old is in a booster as my kid is tiny.
When I hear "but no one else's mom cares about boosters" I say "well I know I care about you being alive in an accident".
After our last accident he agrees. That accident wasn't our fault at all but I got whiplash and all the kids were BH fine.
How to know when your kid can leave a booster sear?

So what if the driver was fine but someone else was on their cell phone? Or adjusting the radio? Or fell asleep? On drugs? Or had a heart attack or a seizure?!?
We cannot control the other drivers. We can only control ourselves and protect ourselves and our kids.

This is so unsafe, I can't even believe it. My daughter had breath-holding spells as well, holding them in a moving vehicle is not safer, at ALL. Do you really think that in the even of a crash, chas v'shalom, your arms will stay closed? Her head will be secured? If you were to get injured, G-d forbid, do you think your arms wouldn't fly open, or she wouldn't get crushed against you chas v'chalila? So so so many terrible options. Securing the baby in the carseat should be the only option for taking her anywhere.

I think you should stop other people from bashing those that you invited here. You're letting neighbors be mean to your guests lol

Off topic but if your 11 year old is tiny enough to need a booster then take him to an endo to get checked

That’s pretty dramatic. The average 11 year old boy is 56.4” which is just under the minimum 4’9” a child needs to be to move out of a booster seat. And given that there are additional requirements beyond height (legs need to be able to bend past the end of the seat, seat belt needs to be at the right position on the shoulder) kids who have long legs and short torsos or long torsos and short legs could be past 4’9” when they finally reach both.

Ooops I think might need a booster
Seriously though the seatbelt does go on my neck now that I think about it.

100% that’s what caused the accident but the child may have possibly survived in a car seat, but unfortunately the seat belt being in the wrong position on his tiny body killed him. (I don’t want to be graphic but whatever happened to him only happened because of the seatbelt snapping back and doing its job but he was too short and it was in the wrong place)

Try to see if there’s an extension belt or peice you can get that will make the seatbelt rest on your shoulders instead.
ETA: 2pcs Seat Belt Clips,Seatbelt Adjuster for Adults,Universal All Auto Models, Metal Seat Belt Clip,Suitable for Kids, Fat Man,Adults (Grey)
https://www.amazon.com/seat-ad.....psc=1
Something like this, I have no clue if this is safe though, but it’s the first thing I found when googling.

That looks like a bowel perforation waiting to happen 🫣
They do make adult booster cushions though!

NEVER USE SUCH A THING!! It is dangerous to add anything to seat belts or car seat straps. They cannot work correctly in a crash and will do the opposite of save a life.
FYI most cars you can move the seat belt up and down to position it correctly in the front seat. Check the wall of your car.
