If we are talking about the same story the 5 year old that died from only wearing a seat belt was bec the woman driving was texting on her phone and drove in the wrong lane.

So there's more to the story then just a 5 yr old in a seatbelt.

Sorry but I care more about my kids being alive than some made up social status.

And my 11 year old is in a booster as my kid is tiny.
When I hear "but no one else's mom cares about boosters" I say "well I know I care about you being alive in an accident".
After our last accident he agrees. That accident wasn't our fault at all but I got whiplash and all the kids were BH fine.

This is so unsafe, I can't even believe it. My daughter had breath-holding spells as well, holding them in a moving vehicle is not safer, at ALL. Do you really think that in the even of a crash, chas v'shalom, your arms will stay closed? Her head will be secured? If you were to get injured, G-d forbid, do you think your arms wouldn't fly open, or she wouldn't get crushed against you chas v'chalila? So so so many terrible options. Securing the baby in the carseat should be the only option for taking her anywhere.

That’s pretty dramatic. The average 11 year old boy is 56.4” which is just under the minimum 4’9” a child needs to be to move out of a booster seat. And given that there are additional requirements beyond height (legs need to be able to bend past the end of the seat, seat belt needs to be at the right position on the shoulder) kids who have long legs and short torsos or long torsos and short legs could be past 4’9” when they finally reach both.

(I don’t want to be graphic but whatever happened to him only happened because of the seatbelt snapping back and doing its job but he was too short and it was in the wrong place)

Try to see if there’s an extension belt or peice you can get that will make the seatbelt rest on your shoulders instead.

FYI most cars you can move the seat belt up and down to position it correctly in the front seat. Check the wall of your car.
