I don't understand the point of this thread. You're asking for people to explain why they do something risky only to bash them for it?

I'm the OP, I haven't bashed anyone...

Throw tomatoes. She refuses. We still drive places. Will update when she dies.

Btw in Israel it’s legal to strap rear facing car seats in front seat.

Not gonna throw tomatoes, but I do wonder why she gets to decide Scratching Head

There is no point in a booster that isn't strapped in. The point of a booster is to position the belt properly.

FYI if you are lazy, only buckle the bottom not the chest strap. It’s very dangerous that way. More than not Being belted.
My chest straps broke and the car seat company didn’t want to give me new ones they said the car seat can function without it and in case of an accident it can injure the kid by pressing on the chest they said it’s even illegal in some places.

Some don't think while others view life as a game of chance- as in there is risk in anything you do & the chances of being in an accident on a given day are statistically really small.

Personally I'm strict with car seat safety but I can relate to that mindset in other areas.

Buy a new carseat. Seriously!! They don't want to spend the money, they don't care about your kid. They would just say if CV something happened "this is what happens when you drive with a broken carseat."
They aren't responsible to pay for new parts either unless you had some sort of lifetime guarantee.

Chest strap is important. It helps a kid not fly out of a seat in a bad car accident. It helps prevent whiplash and other neck injuries.

Just buy a new car seat!!

For the post about not fitting in boosters- get the bumble bum booster. Better than no booster for older kids (7 and up?) But make sure to thread the belt through the red tabs on the side.

I have a tiny car and no one can believe what I fit there. And all safe and done as per car seat technician I know. I had a RF, a FF, and a booster. In a small sedan.
So I didn't have a doona. Oh well.
Safety matters more than convenience or style.
Someone wanted me to give a ride to their 9 year old and said they can be in the front seat. Sorry, no. Not in my car.

Lol they are rated the safest most tested company it was $500. They claim the car seat straps should fit well so it holds the kid in and if there is a crash the pressure of the chest straps injured kids. It’s not all black and white.

In some countries chest straps are illegal.
In Israel they say it's according to the country of manufacture. I have a European car-seat so it doesn't come with chest straps but the American ones does.
She can just buy a set of replacement chest straps if her country needs it.

It's actually not clear if chest clips save lives because it makes it more difficult to evacuate quickly. Some countries don't allow chest clips at all.

They are wrong. Because if they believe in that concept their straps should be different like the European ones. It’s a different angle. It’s not just the same and one has a chest clip and one doesn’t. And just because they can legally not cover it you would still be in legal trouble for using a car seat incorrectly. In the US you must use a chest clip.

You can not always just by a replacement chest strap many carseats cqn not he rethreaded

I never get the idea of just buckling chest strqps and not main harness that provides the actual protection

This thread brings up memories of how we used to go in the car as children. We had a dozen children and various size cars over the years. Seat belts were there just for decorations. I used to sit by my mothers legs on the floor and duck down if someone saw a police car. We sat on each others laps and backwards in the trunk if it was a station wagon style. Oh the good old days

And after many lives lost, and many permanently paralyzed children we learned to do better. Back then cars were still new, and also it was a slower paced world. And now we have a method to keep many people alive, isn’t that amazing how it all works?

Years ago I had a 3yo who would unbuckle his chest strap while we were driving on the highway. Made me panic so badly! But I'm glad to hear the lower buckle is the ikkur.

This is not true. Chest clips are added by US manufacturers solely as a guide to assist with strap positioning. If the straps are being placed and tightened properly the chest clip is totally superfluous. Especially in a rear facing car seat, where most of the crash forces send the child up toward the top of the seat, not against the harness the way a forward facing child would be.

I’m guessing the poster you’re responding to has a Clek, see here for their take on it: https://clekinc.com/blogs/clek.....-know

These car seat/ booster threads make me almost laugh. It must be that 90% of those living in tristate area are too afraid to post but we’re all in the same boat. It is obviously a few posters who are vocal about following the safely standards and go on about how can the safety of our kids not be the most important…when what I see in reality is completely different. What I see is kids start sitting in front seat from about age 10. And kids are out of boosters from about age 4,5. I’m not saying at all that that this is what I agree with. I’m saying this is what I see. This is just the reality. If I’d make my kid sit in a booster past age 6 (one poster said her 9 yr old is still in a booster!!) then it’s literally be social suicide for that kid. Let me repeat this is what I see, not what necessarily makes sense to me. So I just laugh at these threads because They’re always the same with just a few vocal posters who scare away everyone else. Maybe they live out of town and these rules are followed the way they should be there- I wouldn’t know.

As someone in Lakewood, it is not social suicide. And it’s so annoying when I need to drive your kid home and explain in my car they will sit in a booster and wear seatbelts because no one is dying in my car on my watch. And yes I spend time educating the like of you. And I think it’s terrible that you all contribute to the problem together. There are plenty of us who do the right thing. And was a 5 year old boy in our neighborhood, not in a booster, dying because of it not enough to shake you up? You can laugh. I cried that day and said why are we like this, why can’t we do better.
