We were told similar as well from one Rebbi. However, we were also told that you don't want to lose the kid ch"v in the process. Telling them to "make it work" doesn't work in chinuch nowadays. It's a scary world out there

Not sure Monsey one would be a good fit. Definitely make sure to speak with parents in the grade you would be going into.
To answer your questions about cherry hill, they are kind and warm but also strict and professional when it comes to doing the work, attending classes, etc. It's not the type of place they let you slack off. It is tracked so all boys are not on the same level. My son has not complained about any "inappropriateness" or cursing (and he has been upset by that in other places).
