ITA
When I seen a very long wig on a short and not so slim woman IMHO it looks kind of comical and not very flattering.

Re: forced haircuts back in the day, for some reason there were some people who thought long hair was unkempt and unhygienic, and they would voice their disapproval of girls with long hair. The definition of long hair varied. Maybe they had generational trauma from lice, or something?

I have trauma from lice, and I kept my girls' beautiful hair well-shampooed, conditioned and combed out. None of them ever had lice BH. (and yes, I've heard that it has nothing to do with cleanliness. Baloney. They had lice in the camps for a reason - not being able to keep clean. Yes you can get it if you are clean too, but it definitely helps. I used to tell my daughters when washing and brushing out their long hair - as gently as possible - that we were making sure not to get buggies. They understood.)

For me it was nothing of that sort . Never had lice in my life and neither did my mother . She just liked the way it looked , thought it was easier and didn’t care what I thought . I was a little girl , my opinion didn’t matter .

My hair was curly. Not even styled just super duper short. Oy. I never realized there were others like me! Ironically once I could grow my hair others chopped theirs off but they had stick straight hair so it looked cute in a bob style.

it should be don't cut your daughter's hair short UNLESS she wants it. my niece really wanted a short haircut so my SIL let her. My SIL said people? were shocked that she let but she said it's my daughter's body, why can't she have short hair if she wants. It was similiar to the picture posted above, not a boys haircut or anything.

Body lice have to do with lack of cleanliness. Head lice don't. I'm not sure why you have an issue with that, but head lice like clean hair, and they have no trouble taking hold despite combing because a regular comb isn't fine-toothed enough to get them out.
It's still not a real reason to keep hair short, especially since head lice can take hold even in pixie length hair. Short hair can make it easier to comb them out once they're already present, but even if you think it's worth cutting the hair, it can be done in order to get rid of lice, not as a "preventative" measure.

Yes, I was dragged to the "haircut lady" every month. The tears & tantrums.....
My sister's has nice longer hair. They only had a pixie in pre school. But I had very thin hair & my mom claimed that if it's cut often, it will grow thicker. Well, it was cut often & never grew thicker.... I just had to endure monthly haircuts till my bas mitzvah. Oh, the simcha when my hair was finally long enough to be put in to a ponytail!! Once I hit my teens, I refused to cut my hair till my principal told me that it needs to be cut....

My own experience does not jive with this. I can tell you that cleanliness was lacking in the house I grew up in, we were bathed once a week and not even always shampooed, and we had lice several times despite our pixie haircuts (which my mother did for her convenience - since she wasn't dealing with the cleanliness, she made it easier for herself when the lice hit.) At a certain age I took charge of my own bathing (when I was old enough) and I never had lice again after that.
OTOH my kids were regularly bathed and shampooed, and they never got lice, long hair notwithstanding.

It's the cleanliness of the hair itself that doesn't affect the spread of lice. Items like clothing, pillowcases and hairbrushes are more likely to spread lice when shared or not washed properly, and an infestation can keep cycling around the same household for a long time. In order to properly get rid of lice, all possessions that come into contact with the head need to be laundered or quarantined.

My niece is the one who wants this cut as well. Her hair is curly and hard to manage so I understand the frustration. I’m worried she’ll get made fun of or stereotyped. I cut my hair to a bob length at one point and regretted it horribly! Still waiting for it to be as long as it was again.

Curly hair will not look good with a pixie cut.

A pixie cut is not made for curly hair. That would look horrid.

I have curly hair. curly hair curls up so even if it looks short it isn't really. if it's short when you brush it it's a boy when it dries. please please discourage her from doing it.

It does though. That's what suiting or not suiting actually means. What about you it emphasizes

They had body lice because they were cramped in squalor conditions without the means to treat the lice. It's not comparable with regular hair lice we get today.
It's true lice like clean hair, it's easier to grip then greasy hair.
The association with filth or neglect is because kids who are constantly having lice is because their parents aren't treating it properly and it reinfects
No one is immune though. Plenty of clean kids get it at least once or twice,
Keeping your hair nest and tied up is what helps to protect it. You got lucky they never caught lice, that's all.

My grandma cut my hair. She preferred short hair on girls, thought it was neater... We visited often and she would just take out the scissors. It was when I was little. Too little to take care of my own hair and my mother was objectively dealing with a lot. I still brush my current 6 year olds hair and not sure when I'll be able to stop...

Yes pretty much. My parents didn't parent in such a way that their kids had a say in much. We were meant to do what they said.
Though at a certain point, when I began to take care of myself well and got strong enough to put up tremendous resistance, my mother stopped cutting my hair, not out of respect for my say, but more like avoiding another tantrum from me.
