What are you opinions on unmarried girls cutting their hair short? I mean pixie cut. Feminine, but short. I don’t see this very often, is this okay? Is it okay by Jewish law, but also do you ever see women getting this haircut where you live? I’m in New Jersey and I never see this.

Its OK according to Jewish law, but why would it be in style?

It's perfectly fine and was common back in my day but the reason you don't see it these days is because it's not so fashionable anymore and can be associated with a certain stereotype iykwim. Some people can pull it off though if they look very feminine in other ways.

There is no halacha that your hair has to be long. But I don’t see this style around in general. In the non Jewish world it’s more of a lesbian and rocker look. In the Jewish world it’s a style sheitel 70+ wear.

I saw a kindergarten girl with a real pixie cut last week. It looked adorable and took me back thirty years.

There were lots of frum girls with this sort of cut that I recall back in the 80s and maybe a bit into the 90s. The very trendy hairstyles were either big hair (often permed) or else very short pixie cuts. Same with sheitels for married women, btw, lots of young trendy frum women had short pixie style wigs.
I think this sort of very short cut became popular from Dorothy Hamill the figure skater in the 70s.
Eventually it'll come back in style. Not everyone can pull it off, though. You need very delicate feminine features for it to be a flattering style.

Common for younger girls, under pre teen.
And a bob/lob is not a pixie cut. You don't really see pixie cuts now days. Maybe on toddlers.

Growing up, many girls and women I knew had pixie cut style. Including some of my teachers.
It’s just not fashionable at the moment, so you don’t see it.
In addition, these days, anyone doing a pixie cut is automatically looked at as ‘hmmm, are they gay’ in certain circles. So that might hold some people back. My kids ENT wears a very feminine looking pixie, and wears it as a conversation piece, to bring awareness to breast cancer (she’s a survivor). I’ve heard numerous people ask if she’s gay due to her haircut 🤷♀️

I had a pixie cut till the 6th grade, I got a haircut every month. I'll never forget the tears and tantrums at every haircut.

I feel for you , had a tapered back . I finally grew it in after 7 grade and then went to the same hairstyle who cut it back again.
Bh by high school my hair was already growing in. My mother liked it short until I can handle my hair myself, however I had thick hair and need to blow the bangs every day. Once I grew it in it was easy to handle.
My daughters all had longer hair from kindergarten and on.

Just as a PSA about judging the gay thing, I had a teacher with a really really short spiky haircut that made her look gay. We knew she wasn't because she was a long time married with a family and there was no other signs besides the hair. She dressed feminine other then that, makeup and all.
Anyway I found out the reason she had such a short hairstyle was because she suffered from terrible migraines and her hair feeling even a little heavy exasperated it.

I love pixie cuts. They raise the focal point up toward the face instead of down toward the body, they're comfortable, and despite the stereotypes, everyone looks good in one.
And I don't think women need to pay a "femininity tax" by overcompensating in another area.

My mother used to cut our hair pixie style because it was easier to clean/shampoo/brush, etc....I think it's an awful thing to do to your child and I would never do it to mine. My daughters had beautiful hair and I worked hard to maintain it and let them look/feel pretty.

So does pink and she's married with kids
Some people can pull it off but it is kind of a stereotype. Sad because long hair doesn't suit everyone

Not everyone looks good in them. And not everyone looks good in long hair. We all have different shaped faces and necks

There are different styles of pixie cut, and there is nobody who can't find one that suits them. The only thing pixie cuts never do is conceal, but nobody's features need concealing.

It's an awful thing to forcibly doing anything to your child's hair, whether cutting it, forcing them to let them grow it out, dyeing it, perming it, etc. While a parent has some level of authority on a child's appearance, it's still a basic aspect of bodily autonomy, and even though it's just hair, in a small way it makes someone feel violated to have someone do something to it.
