If you got married young/didn’t have much savings before you got married, how much did you have saved up 3 years in?

I’m trying to save for a house and I’m trying to figure out if I’m on track. It’s hard to use online calculators and things because frum life is so different.

I"m not sure what others' saved is going to be meaningful information for you. So much depends on what you earn in the first place, cost of living where you are, and if you're getting any help from family, etc, etc.

I’m interested in hearing what’s ’normal’ because my father will probably help us with a down payment, but he’d be much happier to help if he knew we had been responsible also…he’s very into us being self sufficient even though he is quite wealthy. Which I get. I just want to know before I broach the topic with him if what I have is reasonable and he’ll be proud and happy.

To give more details, DH in kollel, I don’t have a degree but my job is a skill I had learned, not a regular office job. My father is probably a bit disappointed I didn’t get a degree.

Nothing. Husband is in kollel and I’m supporting my family. We live paycheck to paycheck and bh we have a beautiful life. I’m happy for people who own a home but I don’t think it’s the kind of thing that has a ‘normal.’
Every couple is in a completely different situation there’s no comparing.

We had nothing

Dh parents were supporting us while he was in grad school

I made Pennies and we used it to pay some of our groceries. We had to spend all our wedding money.

My brother is in kollel and likely has 20-40k saved up in 2 years incl wedding money

cant answer your original question but I think if you have 30k thats definitely a reasonable amount to have saved toward a down payment in 3 years
