I’m due around Chanuka time. Kids r psyched , waiting for this baby to make its appearance as its been a few years since we had a baby in the house. DD age 5, came home today and said her class is having a choir for chanuka for mommies. she told her morah - my mommy won’t be able to come because she’ll have a new baby. Her morah replied-“ Don’t worry, Mommies don’t have to come , all girls and grandmothers and anyone who wants can also come”.
I immediately felt so sad that my daughter felt that I wasn’t going to be there for her but DH convinced me she was just stating the facts, wasn’t coming from a sad place. So I said: and if baby isn’t here yet, I'm so excited to come. Would u like that ?
To which DD replied - I don’t care if you don’t come mommy and continued with her coloring
what should I be feeling?? I feel slightly insulted and guilty at same time but maybe it’s just all my hormones 😃

My youngest is almost 5 and I’m BH due around the same time. Dd is not having a play or anything. She is so excited about the baby and talks about it a lot! She gives the baby hugs and kisses in my belly. Is your 5 year old excited otherwise? If yes I’d say don’t worry. If not I’d say use this time to bond with her and maybe read her a book about what to expect. I like A Baby of Our Own.

Honestly I wouldn't overthink it. She might not care about the event much. The baby is way more exciting right now. I am happy for you that she is excited. When I had my 4th my son was in preschool and he was very nervous about it. She seems to have accepted that you might not be there for a valid reason and not because you don't want to be.
