I honestly don't see what the big fat deal is if an old thread gets bumped every now and then. It's not that hard to check the date before you get too invested. I think it's rude for mods to automatically lock old threads if current people are enjoying the thread now.

It's pretty annoying
Especially when bumping it serves no purpose, nothing substantial is being added by the bumper to the topic being discussed

100% agree it’s so annoying I hate when that happens. Especially if the bump has no use or no new info
Or just repeat what has already been said.
I told all these people saying, especially under the screen name how they don’t find it a big deal they’re probably the ones bumping, especially if there’s no reply for six months and then bump it’s really weird and annoying.
At least I’m not the only one that’s really annoyed by this.

Not everybody checks the date it happened so many times where I started reading a thread from the beginning because it was bumped and I wasn’t logged in so obviously took me to the first page start reading reading and I was gonna reply then I realize it’s from so many years ago and it got me annoyed obviously I did not respond in those threats because it’s annoying

I just bumped an old thread of my own. Should I have started a new thread? I would have just linked to the old one in the first post.

Being the OP is a different story.
I’m taking about (maybe op too) bumping old threads if your not op.

I think it behooves the READER to check the date before responding, and also going to the END of the thread to check where it's up to.
NOT for an Amother to complain that it is happening. Censorship benefits no one.

Let's pretend someone posts a shalom bayis issue. This is something that only occupies an hour of her day but it's stressing her out and she turns to Imamother for help. For several pages she goes back forth with posters getting good advice and quietly resolves the issue.
Now six years later a member comes by and stumbles up on the thread so she starts reading but something in the OP's original post really triggers her and she quotes this post (usually before reading the rest of the thread) and she posts a reply often with extreme and unhelpful advice
Now OP has forgotten all about her difficult time in her marriage and it's now up for all the world to see again... Maybe some OP 's will take it in stride.. "wow, so much has changed" but others might become embarrassed "omg I can't believe I thought those horrible things"
This is why it's bad manners. |
Sometimes the OP itself gives advice only chapping later that it was her own thread lol

Old threads can be fascinating and a glimpse into the past. I don’t mind them being bumped. If it was a particularly popular one, it brings along lots of memories. If you agree, please like.
