But I get your point: You're telling OP what you personally find useful. |
There was other junk he took to show the kids or he didn't touch.
There is usually no need to give many cheap gifts. A few better ones as encouragement or appreciation will go a lot farther.

I don't want to give more information because I don't want to give myself away.
I am not concerned if I'm insulting anyone. I know I'm not. |
This is such an interesting response. You asked our opinion. The majority say that we dont appreciate it yet you are so confident that your staff appreciates it.
1) so why did you ask?
2) how are you so sure?

No. Waste of your money. They break and clutter my house and end up in the garbage.

I didn't really ask for an opinion.
I wanted to divide the conversation and keep the original thread for links only.
I am sure because they keep asking for more.
You have to know your clientele.

I went to an event and it had little goodies bags with lip balm, pen, tiny notepad. I didn't even take it home. I don't want a random crappy product for my lips. The pen was junky. The notepad was perfect size for my coat pocket but the pages were falling apart bc the glue didn't even hold it.

If it's something edible like chocolate then yes.
Something very useful like notepad then yes.
Gift card for Target or Amazon where one has a choice then yes.

Sometimes a cheap gift is worse than no gift.
I'm sure your employees say thank you because they have to if you're the boss. But I'm also sure that many of them feel insulted and demeaned by the cheap gifts.

Id like a nice pen, sticky notes, flavored chapsticks. Things that are worth what they cost. Shawls no thanks. Jewelry no thanks.

$2 Amazon gift card is a joke. Even a $10 Amazon gift card is a joke imo.

But I would love to understand your train of thinking in that thread. You said that you would be giving these things on a consistent basis. Maybe I’m not understanding where you work? Or who the employees are? Is it a population of adults who have special needs? And why anyone would want a cheap black (of all colors!) pashmina?
Re: “it’s the thought that counts” comments - cheap $2-4 gifts given on a consistent basis makes me as an employee feel like my boss thinks I’m a simple minded person who is worthy of cheap “gifts”, and who needs to be handed a prize for doing my job. I don’t need or want a $3 candle. Or danishes. Or a shawl.
Figure out your gift budget for the year, divide it by that many employees, and give them that cash/Amazon gift card on chanukah or their birthday with a personal note.
There are tiktok and IG reels of employees showing insulting gifts their bosses have given. Don’t end up on a reel. |
I agree about the junk like candles and shawls but buying your staff coffee and danishes is not in the same category.

When I was a teen I liked all gift cards. Preinflation and no not for an adult.

Your employees repeatedly ask you for small gifts??
Sounds like an interesting dynamic.

If you’re having an interactive training or playing a team building game once in a while it could be fun to give out prizes/swag but I would throw it in the garbage over the next day or 2. Same as almost all the prizes my kids come home with. If it was being given on a regualr basis it would feel very wasteful to me.
A food item I would enjoy.
As an employee I would say thank you and join along with my coworker saying how fun it is, the same way I do to anyone who gets me any size gift, so I wonder how you know your employees are being genuine.

True.
Again I don't want to give more details.
I'm intentionally vague.
I'm sorry about that.
I hope it is ok to ask for links that I need without spilling my whole life story or defending my need.
If it is not ok to do this then I will take down that thread.

Between a $2 Amazon gift card or a $2 trinket I surely choose the Amazon card. You save the gift cards for something you really like.
I would never sneer at a $2 Amazon card.
Don't sneer at that single dollar. As a matter of fact your million bucks you have (or maybe dream of) consist of those single dollars.
