Just mention him. He's erased from the story. You could almost think they're separated.

The mechateniste she mentions this week is a different one. Not the daughter's husband's mother.

Oh that wasn't clear. So it's definitely intentional that the husband is missing from the story. There might be good reason but it's more than just "because what should they write about him?"
So sad all around.
