Is there anyone that lives in a ranch with a basement and uses the basement as the main bedroom floor? If yes do you like it or hate that you’re in a basement?

I've seen a couple of houses like that. Personally it bothered me and I live in a ranch. I think what bothered me mostly was that it felt low and cramped but that may be individual to that house. I find that the noise from the living area travels straight down the hallway to my bedroom in my ranch which is annoying. But it's easier to check on a sleeping baby or get kids moving for school while helping others in the kitchen because I don't have to go up and down

Thanks! We’d do it to optimize the space we have because upstairs would be cramped.. would love to hear anyone else’s experiences

I know someone who did it for 10 years. She said it wasn’t too bad. She added a lot of lights and mirrors to brighten up the rooms.

I grew up in a house like that - my parents' room and guest room were in the basement, 3 kids' rooms on the main level with the living room/dining room/kitchen. It gave my parents a ton of privacy to be so far from us at night (they kept babies near them). It also meant my parents were less 'present' in the evenings since they were often reading / doing laundry /etc in the downstairs level while I was doing homework and hanging out upstairs. It was fine. But I like colonials better and currently live in one.

Colonials are definitely more ideal but out of our price range now. The setup you describe has nothing to do with them being in the basement.. it’s about being on a different floor than the kids which can happen in a colonial too… ty for sharing though

I’be also recently been contemplating a ranch. It is quite large (almost 3000sf) but there is no basement at all (maybe a crawl space?).
I would love to hear from others their regrets or advice.
We are considering this house because of price and location, but I really would prefer a colonial.

I have a ranch. We eventually finished the basement. Rented it out for a few years. Use it as part of the house now. Main bedrooms are upstairs, but the downstairs bedrooms don’t feel ‘basement’ at all. We made all bedrooms have egress windows, and the ceiling are 8feet, so all that helps.

Lived like this growing up. My brother was in the basement and he had far more privacy than I did (I lived upstairs). You definitely see them less but depending on the age that can be a good thing
