I’m looking into this for my son whose prescription declined pretty quickly.

If you did this, did you do glasses or lenses?
What was your experience like?

Thank you!

America doesn't have FDA approval yet on the glasses, though I hear it will be soon
My daughter got lenses this summer and she's going in a few hours for a follow up to see how her vision is. I hope to remember to update.
We're not using the very expensive dailies. We are using a monthly similar option that was way cheaper.

There was a thread about it recently. Search xenox I think that’s what it has in the thread title. Had a nice amount of information.

Yes, great success BH with miyosmart.
There is another company doing it now as well but we haven’t used them and I can’t remember the name.
I’m in the UK.

I know people travel for other optic concerns- is that an option for you? My child’s prescription has hardly changed in the last 3+ years after rapid changes every 6 months.

My 10yr old has had the glasses (UK) for the past few years. After a year there was a small increase, the second year it stayed the same.

I would definitely recommend.

Yes. We were the first at our eye doctor to experiment and it works wonders! Highly recommend!

Anyone can recommend someone excellent in NY who works with such lenses?
Both adult and children

Both adult and children

My son's opthalmologist Dr. Phyllis Weingarten strongly recommended it. She's located in Monsey area and sees mostly children but also adults. If you want her phone number, post here.

To me it seems like the latest rage and everyone is being encouraged to do it instead of assessing individual benefit. It's very very expensive. We went for a second opinion for DS's vision (other) issues and that second opthalmologist said that rapid change in myopia (nearsightedness) is associated with periods of rapid growth and since DS is already almost six feet tall, he doesn't think his vision will get much worse, so he doesn't think it's necessary, considering the cost.

My daughter uses the dailies. First 3 month we didn't see much change her number were still climbing. We decided to give it a little more time. At her last visit there was just a tiny change.
Insurance covers only 3 month supply, were paying rest out of pocket.
Didn't know there were other options

Her vision stayed stable and the Dr was pleased, she thought it would get a drop worse still.
Going back in 6 months...
The only issue is that she has slight astigmatism that they don't treat at that level in contacts but they do in glasses... But we can't get myopic glasses here yet. Since astigmatism comes and goes (she's like a level 2 and half the time on the tests she prefers corrective and not the other half, the contacts only come at level 3), Dr said to wait before changing her prescription. She's been wearing the contacts for about 3 months and her nerve that stretches to elongate the eye (myopia) hasn't shown signs of elongating recently any more which was the point of the special contacts...

Which lenses are you using?
And which doctor? My daughter has a great doctor but he doesn't do lens fittings

I have a daughter using ortho-k lenses. I think I've gone into detail on other threads, maybe you can search. Bh she's doing very well.

I wish we could get the glasses. I live in the US. For now we are using eyedrops atropin but it’s really not ideal. Often forget and it’s hard to get into the eyes.

I hope fda approves glasses really soon. Dc doesn’t want lenses. (I don’t blame! Age 10 is young for lenses.)

I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure our Ortho-k lenses treat the astigmatism. I think that's one of the reasons it was recommended. We've been status quo for a few years bh so I need to work on recalling all the details.

If you think lenses would be the best treatment option for DC, you can sell the idea positively. My DD loves that she doesn't need to wear glasses anymore (she did actually like her glasses but it's also liberating that she doesn't need to worry about them getting lost or broken, e.g. keeping them safe while she goes swimming, getting scratches on them...) You get much more peripheral vision with lenses than glasses, she really loves how much better she sees now. It took some getting used to but after a week or so it didn't bother her anymore at all, it's just one of those things that sounds icky but could totally be fine - like the eye drops! Once in a while they get irritating and she adds moisturizing drops to her routine for a week or so.

Positive attitude can go a long way! Our optometrist is very enthusiastic and upbeat about treatment and it definitely wears off on the patient (we use Dr. Cooper in Brooklyn/Manhattan.)
