Bidet for ds6 | Imamother

Ds6 has been stuffing up our toilets using so many tissues every time he poops. We tried teaching him how to use less but it’s no use. Was thinking of installing a bidet on all our toilets. Would that help the situation? I don’t think he’s cleaning himself properly otherwise.

Why? I actually know nothing about bidets… just trying to be creative.

The auto shutoff prevents flooding from the bidet accidentally being left on. Young children aren't necessarily able to handle turning it on and off properly.

Is he literally using tissues or are you calling toilet paper tissues?

Actual tissues to blow your nose should NEVER be flushed as they don't disintegrate in water the way toilet paper does.

That said is your toilet older? I ask because I had an older toilet and the plumber said that over time the traps get narrower because elements from the water adhere to the sides and narrow them. I upgraded to Toto toilets and I have NEVER had a clog with them.

In the meantime could he at least flush before he finishes completely. I have read that flushing several times helps prevent clogs when you have clog prone toilets.

That said I have a Toto washlet bidet which I love but I don't think it would be the wisest thing for an irresponsible six year old boy.

It does only turn on when someone is sitting on it and turns off when you get up if you forget to turn it off on the remote, but I am reasonably sure any self respecting mischievous boy could find a way to flood it.

Same here. I actually bought a different brand, but the same idea -- I installed it myself.

This is actually one of those things that I'm embarrassed I never pursued until -- about six months ago! My adult DD got one and told me how much she loved it.

What a quality-of-life upgrade!

* Use less tissue
* Reduce the risk of UTIs
* Feel cleaner

I've even convinced my other kids to install them in their homes. Makes you feel like you're living in the 21st century.

You know, I was worried about that.

I don't find it very cold or uncomfortable. However, that may be because our water doesn't come out of the tap very cold -- not sure why.

The funny part -- and my DDs agree with me -- is that now I'm kind of grossed out by bathrooms without a bidet.

It's $30, so I figured I'd try it out. If I liked it well enough to purchase a more deluxe model, then I'd do that at some point. As it turned out, the $30 version is fine. There were tons of YouTube videos showing how to install it, including lots of independent ones that had good tips and explanations.

I don't know how tight your budget is, but if you can spare $30 or so, I think it's worth a try. I'm not sure if it will solve the problem with your DS, but I think it's a great think to have on its own merit.

It's not electric. You can use it on Shabbos.

You do have to twist the handle on and off when you use it, but it's in a very convenient position. Another poster mentioned that a child might forget to turn it off, and you'd end up with a flood. I can see that happening, but I think I'd risk it.
