We're looking to buy a new oven, sub ~$1000.
I've always used GE, but the appliance store is pushing us to go with Samsung.
Any advice?

I have a Samsung oven. And while the performance is great, I'm highly disappointed that the knobs are plastic! And therefore they've cracked! And customer service was not very helpful with replacing them. So if you end up buying Samsung, or any other brand for that matter make sure the knobs are stainless steel & not plastic.

LOL. One of my pet peeves with GE was this exact issue 😁

I've had a Samsung for a few years. We had to replace the ignitor I think it was, but we did it on our own, no repairman necessary. Other than that, I love the 5 burners, the Shabbos mode, we got convection which I find helpful, I use the cooking time feature to shut off the oven when I'm not going to be around for it to finish...

The igniter issue was a known problem on ge's as well. It has to be replaced every couple of years

I had a GE for 3 years without that issue, but that was over a decade ago.
I just want to give as honest a review as possible 😉

I have Samsung and I'm very happy
Love the ease of shabbos mode.
I only have it for 2ish years though

I have 2 Samsungs for 8 years. They work well and I'm happy with them. ( I cook and bake a lot)
Nice to have 5 burners and seamless grates, and I love the convection bake for cookies and the bread proof option for challah dough.
Delay start with time bake and shabboa mode are simple to use and great features.
I replace the ignitor at least once a year (order on Amazon for $25 and follow a YouTube to replace)
I self clean a few times a year. I found the base plate of the oven bubbled and rusted (it is replaceable). It may be from an oven liner I once mistakenly left in or just inferior quality...
My mother's 20+ yr old GE looks newer than my Samsung oven. But then again, GE isn't the same as it was years ago either.
* I agree with above posters that it's quite annoying to have cracked knobs and the markings for the flames rubbed off years ago

Can you elaborate on the bolded? I recently got a Samsung oven and still can't figure out a good system.

I can't speak to a range if you're getting one of those, but I have a Samsung double wall oven and I'm very happy with it. It's about 2 years old and it still looks new. My only issue complaint is that I can't keep both ovens on shabbos mode which I was used to with my previous KitchenAid but that sadly wasn't in the budget at the time.

Just got two GE ovens as part of a kitchen remodeling this past summer, and I love them.
For the fleishig oven, I got the Zman Technologies' Shabbos Keeper. It has the features of the built-in Shabbos mode, but it also has a "Holiday Mode" that alternates cooking and warming temperatures on holidays.
