With every other purchase I wasn’t like this. I had no problem spending even more money on items that I did research on and were fairly simple to figure out like furniture or a watch.
But sheitels are the Wild West. I don’t have a sheitel macher who I trust for this, the one I use for wash and sets is fantastic but she didn’t have much to show me.

I previously bought by someone who now only sells her own brand- a processed wig which is $500-1000 more than the cost of processed wigs such as Sary, Irene Level, Eva and Chloe or Zissy.

I went around to a few different salons/sheitel machers and each one says something diff. One says do processed. One says spend more for a virgin hair wig. One says I don’t know what to tell you.

I tried on one raw wig that looked nice but is not the wig of my dreams although the SM days once it’s cut and blown it will look nice. Not sure she understood fully the look I’m going for though I tried to describe and show pics.

I have the budget right now for a processed wig but for a virgin hair wig I’d need wait a lot longer.

I really really want to love a new wig and feel beautiful and be happy with my purchase! But I’m getting the feeling I might spend thousands of dollars only to regret my purchase.

Just venting here…

Excellent point about the lack of clarity and transparency with sheitel purchasing! I also do tons of research before a big purchase and it’s so frustrating that we can’t do that with wigs even though they’re more important to us than an appliance in our homes because the impact our comfort in our actual bodies day to day, and the way we look, both of which impact how we feel and act in life.

People post on imamother asking for people’s experiences with with wig brands all the time and don’t usually get helpful info. Anecdotally, my sister got a few wigs she loves from a specific brand. I bought from that brand and absolutely hate the wig. It looks awful. Her wigs look amazing. There’s no consistency, it’s luck of the draw.

I have processed wigs and like them, for what it’s worth.

It doesn't help that you are buying raw material and have to just hope that the finished product will look right and wear well.

I only buy precuts for this reason, at least then I know what it actually looks like.

Thanks for understanding me! I forgot to add that I haven’t purchased a full wig other than a fall in4 years and I do t have female friends or relatives I can bring along for their opinion.

4 years ago when I bought my last 2 wigs the options and choices weee much fewer and simpler.

Exactly. And no (or barely any) re sale value

Dh bought a watch for $1100 and he didn’t like it so after a few months he sold it for $1200 on eBay…

I had two virgin wigs and just got a shabbos wig that is processed. I can't handle the itchy feeling against my face. If you will have the finances for virgin, wait! It's so much better!

I currently have one four year old virgin wig and one four year old processed wig. And a processed wig fall. The hair doesn’t bother me. Sure the virgin is softer at this point but it knots much faster and is more delicate when I brush it. So has its pros and cons.

Also I don’t have a date when I’ll have the money for the virgin wig. So that means wearing my 4 year old wigs for possible 6 months to a year longer. And maybe at that point having to decide that I can only budget for the processed wig after all. (We have BH a baby coming which will mean more expenses.)

My sister got married with a Virgin wig a few months ago and she hates it. It doesn't hold a style, the hair is too soft. We also both got a Mollie and we love love under 2k. My mom got eva and Chloe and loves as well.
