My grandsons are coming for a visit- they are ages 8-10. The things I have at home are for younger age children. Can anyone suggest some books/games, etc that boys this age would enjoy? They wanted mega monopoly but it was too expensive.

I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you

scruffy- thank you for your suggestions. We have monopoly deal, but I never heard of Cover your assets. Is it something they can learn easy enough or do you think I need to sit with them? I have heard of perpetual commotion- I will check that out as well. Much appreciated!!

Rabbit613- thanks for your suggestion, but they may be limited in reading only jewish content- I don't know of jewish comics, but then, I am not familiar with other jewish books for this age as well.

Can I just say how impressed I am that you are doing everything you can while respecting their standards?

Games:
Race
junior taboo
rummicub

Do you have a local Jewish library so you could get some books? otherwise there are cheap comics called Marshmallow you could buy a few.

or just regular packs of cards to play all kinds of things with.

Lego is very popular for that age and I'll second the comic books as well.
Do you have anyone you can borrow from?

Just a warning. Perpetual Commotion is great, but someone always gets scratched or a jammed finger (girls care, boys may not). Imagine it like playing Spit with multiple people reaching to the same pile.

My sons at that age loved comics, especially the educational ones. (Can be purchased at any judaica store)

Lego and knex. Some kids like Playmobil, but mine don't.

Games, already mentioned, like monopoly deal, cover your assets, as well as, set, stratego, chess, ticket to ride, and risk.

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions. I do have access to a Jewish library so I’ll go check that out. We have some of the games mentioned, but I like some of these new ideas. I really appreciate all your ideas- it has really helped me. Thank you again

What a devoted bubby!
You can get Jewish comics books on Eichlers or other Judaica sites.
