How long do germs live on surfaces anyway?

When someone drinks from a can, to a bystander it doesn’t look much diff than drinking from a cup. A bottle is something you chug from so that’s different. Maybe less refined. But a can?!

All those saying you wash and or use straws, what do you do when you get a can from a vending machine with no straws or sinks nearby?

Thing is when you open a can part of the top is already going in

I don’t like soda or seltzer or iced tea, so I haven’t drunk anything out of a can in years.

So “I don’t drink from cans” is for that reason, not anything ideological or hashkafic.

Gonna root out all the BYLA-ers by mentioning this as an example we got (drinking out of a can with a straw/pouring into a cup) of “Dakos HaEmes” from Mrs B in 11th grade. Forever in my brain, whether I meet such standards of “refinement” as as adult or not.

Drinking from a straw will give you wrinkles. My mother taught me to never ever do it. I clean the can and drink.

I’d assume so. I rinse all cans, and I like to use can openers that open cans in a way that the top part doesn’t fall in to the can.

Yes, there have been cases of toxoplasmosis via can contamination in the late 90’s.

When we are out I wipe it very well with my skirt or tissue, or find a sink. The bigger issue is the rim where it has an indent and you can see dirt piled in there.

I rarely buy cans, but when I do I drink directly, never thought about the germs.

I think cans are so impractical, once it's open you can't close it. That's why I usually buy the bottle, especially when travelling,

Straight from the can! My grandmother told me that drinking from a straw would give you wrinkles around your lips.

It never occurred to me to clean the lid until now...yikes...I probably should.
