Turning IDF ideology religious? Only when h*ll freezes will it happen... |
Why do you think we are all DL ladies?

It is not a political stunt. The IDF has worked out a detailed plan how to be culturally sensitive to chareidim.

There's no doubt that the IDF would prefer many more thousands of secular and DL recruits every year than that same number of haredi draftees, if only because of the extreme and diverse difficulties involved in drafting haredim, at least initially.
The IDF manpower branch has already said that in addition to lengthening mens service to 3 years (the way it used to be until it was shortened by 4 months around 9 years ago) it would tighten the regulations that enable potential recruits to obtain exemptions on grounds like mental/emotional incompatibility and that it would discourage men with high profiles from serving in non-combat roles like intelligence, placing them in field units instead.
Still, this is just not enough. There is an immediate need to replace the thousands of soldiers who were killed and wounded since October 7th and a general need to beef up the various field units which were de-prioritized under the previous ruling (and erroneous!) conception that gave precedence to intelligence and the air force and shunted manpower and resource to those areas.
There is no choice but to mobilize all sectors of society toward the defense of this country. It does mean that the IDF is going to have to make changes and show flexibility because yes - there is a huge cultural clash despite the fact that so many soldiers serving today are religious or from traditional backgrounds. I think though that the IDF realizes this and is prepared to face this unprecedented challenge.
