I’m the op of the thread about some Israelis pronouncing the ches sound in a way that I’m not used to hearing.

Some imas think I’m being rude and racist for saying that the accent annoys me.

What do you think?

ETA I can hear why someone would think it’s rude. I’m specifically asking about racist.

As long as one doesn’t mistreat the person with the accent, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with preferring certain accents or pronunciations over others. I don’t think the Sefardi “het” is wrong or inferior or anything, I just enjoy hearing the Ashkenazi “ches” more.

Not racist. Not rude. Maybe silly. Or a bit immature. Just don’t understand why an accent bothers you.

Op Come on, not everything is racist in this world.
You're probably not used to the authentic and correct pronunciation you may find among Yemenites. Most of us don't know how to pronounce correctly to 100%
You probably don't live in Israel so it's easier to forgive.

The Sefardi "het" isn't Sfardi, it's Yemenite to be exact Smile
Other eidot hamizrach don't know how to pronounce like the Yemenites.

I once had a Chinese PH.D. student teaching a calculus II class in college.
I could NOT understand his accent.
B"H no one else could, so he graded leniently and I got an A in his class.
However, I was upset that I wasn't being taught well. That was not racist.
(I had a Chinese economics professor with a British accent. He was fantastic.)

I don’t think you asked anything wrong, and I don’t think being annoyed by certain accents is racist. I can’t stand an Indian accent, even a very slight one like Vivek. So I’ll choose not to listen to an Indian talk if I can because it grinds my nerves. I can listen to Mr who’s the boss tho, because he doesn’t have an accent.

Ok I just reread your other thread. You came across as racist because you asked “why do they talk like that? It’s annoying.” You’re entitled to be annoyed, but you’re not entitled to ask why someone is talking in a way that annoys you when it’s literally their natural accent,

Well, I didn’t know it was. Honestly, I thought it’s just a twist on the regular accent, done on purpose. I don’t know why I thought that lol

To me it sounded like an Israeli trying to sound non Israeli.
