The power was (is?) out, and once it passes and it’s safe, people will have to assess the damage, so you might not get any responses for a while. I’ve got some friends in Houston, BH as of a few hours ago they were all safe.

How do families prepare for something like this? You need food but there is no electricity so no Fridge, washing machine, AC (in the heat and humidity). How do families prepare?

Stock up on bottles water
Stock up on dry goods (cereal, crackers, etc)
Stock up on canned goods
Stock up an batteries
Stock up on candles and matches
Battery operated fans
Don’t want to spend too much time in your car because you will run down the gas and you may not be able to refill when you need to.
Many people will shutter up their house and go to safer areas.
