I’ve been using arm n hammer detergent for years now.
Recently I read in a local weekly publication that it causes whites to turn grey.
My whites have been slightly grey tinged for a while now despite adding oxi/soaking. Initially I thought it was because we had hard water and sometimes our water is brown ringed (despite a filter and didn’t always have a softener).
We replaced most of husbands shirts and underwear recently and want to keep it stark white. Should I use a different detergent? Any tips?
Tia!

I like to use any free & clear detergent since it has no dyes

Also wash separate with only whites. Putting whites in a dark load even once already makes it gray.

But does that help with it not turning grey?
I’ve tried all and tide free and clear and didn’t like it. I’m very happy with the arm n hammer and usually add vinegar instead of softener.

I do a separate white cycle for white shirts only. I use Persil stain remover detergent and also add oxyclean white revive to every load.
White undershirts are washed with same detergent plus bleach.

Curious for those saying they have the same issue-
Which detergent do you use?
And also does your area ever have brown water?
Or is it just more typical than I think for white laundry to eventually turn grey?

If you never wash with other colors they will not turn grey. Where I used to live had water that turned brown. The shirts didn’t turn grey. They appeared brighter after washing with white revive.
