I'll second that boys are just nuts. I have a bunch of boys. One used to use the bucket instead of the toilet standing right next to it! why on earth???
I felt better when I saw my neighbors boys stand on their porch and water the garden. At least mine were doing it privately.

Next I would tell them that this was complete inappropriate behavior and now it is their job to keep their new carpet clean.
Start by showing them how to clean the toilet and bathroom. Get some mild toilet spray cleaner and scrub brush and supervise accordingly.
Also your dh needs to address this situation as well. |
I don't think they need to learn this.
What they need to learn is NOT to do it.

I found out my ds peed in the garbage can in his room, it was easier for him to do it there in middle of the night than to trek to the bathroom, I think he was 9. I smelled it right away and bh it stopped. But I didn't think I was a failure or anything, he was just being creative about not having to go to the bathroom, cuz it's sooo far, just down the hall.

My neighbor had a lot of boys (all married now BH) and she used to go crazy from their peeing contests. She had to make a game of floating a Cheerio in the toilet and having them try to hit the Cheerio to make them pee only in the toilet.

I work in a boys school and every year there r some boys peeing somewhere they shouldn’t. I don’t think this is in any way a reflection of u as a parent and not indication that theres a problem with the boys. Just gross

My son/s use the garbage can right near the toilet. That has stopped but they still manage to spray more out of the toilet than in. They are supposed to clean up after but….. The bathroom constantly smells. and I have cleaning help but still clean in between and it still smells. I’m embarrassed to have when I have guests and they ask to use the bathroom.
I’m actually glad to see this thread and know it’s “normal “

Supposed to clean up? Make sure they clean up. Your may use special cleaning spray intended for cleaning up cat and dog pee (it has some ingredient which breaks down the smell)

Psa it’s not only boys: I have to admit that we had a neighbor who convinced me and my sister to pee on the plants through the window gates. Also one of us peed in the jack in the box toy I still hear my mom yelling from horror……..

I can still remember my brother going for the pickle jar.
His abilities were quite good, I must say.

Pee while it smells is not as unhygienic as we have been conditioned to believe. Unless there is an active infection it won't lead to any harmful germs/bacteria. The urea just has a strong odor that can be hard to get rid of.
Wetness can breed bacteria so you want to get it dried.
You can get a carpet cleaning service to do it, rent a rug cleaner from most stores--WalMart and even some grocery stores have them or buy one--they run like $150.
Yes, boys are gross and it is a phase where everything pee related is hysterical. I have 3 boys.
My daughter was having regular accidents on her new mattress and I forgot to get it a cover, I was having my carpets professionally cleaned before pesach and I asked them to include the mattress--it was good as new afterwards.

If I even smelled a whiff of urine, I would be like huh??!
For starters, I would not want carpet in their room.
Secondly, since they were toilet trained, I teach them they must pick up the seat and try to aim right. One boy had an issue, it was surgically repaired.
If anything goes on the seat, it needs to get wiped. I'm sorry, but we dont live like animals do...
Just as brushing teeth is part of our routine. There isn't an excuse to say I'm lazy...
If they did it once for a joke, I would say normal but deserves a big reprimand. But regularly?!??? NO it's not. Are they gonna grow up thinking it's ok to pee anywhere?

I think the biggest thing that made it difficult for me to not realize sooner is that my older son still has night accidents frequently. This is something we have been working on a lot with him. So the smell was somewhat explainable.

It’s not possible for me to check every time they use the bathroom. One of my boys has outgrown it and iyh the others will too.
