DH and I are vacationing in Mexico in a few weeks. We are going to an area that is not near any kosher eateries/communities.
We would like to bring meals with us, but I am unsure about Mexican law re: bringing food in. Some people shared their experiences in a post here several years ago, but I am looking for more current information. Does anyone have any experience/ knowledge about bringing food into Mexico? TYIA

We went twice in the last few years. Around 3 years ago they confiscated our food in the airport. A few months ago they didn't. I think it's hit or miss. I certainly don't think you can rely on the idea that your food will get in although it might.

They're very afraid of turkey and poultry, so if you wish to try and risk bringing in, only take sealed factory packaged items with clear USDA stamps on them. So something like Hod Golan an Israeli company is a no no.
They may still confiscate. But this is your best bet.

I went to Mexico a few weeks ago. I brought a store bought salad and an apple and they confiscated both.

They have a dog that sniffs at the airport and that’s how they found mine. They called me over from 10 feet away to check my bag. At first I thought it was so random why they were singling me out but then I realized the dog sniffed my food from far away.

Thank you for your replies. Wondering which airport had a dog? We are flying in to Puerto Vallarta- probably not as large of an airport as, say, Mexico city or cancun

Mexico definitely engages in racial profiling. They know religious jews bring food, so they tend to be vigilant about checking our luggage. If you are going to an airport that doesn't have a lot of experience with Jews, you might be luckier. I flew to cancun a few months ago and they took away all cheese, bread, and fruits. Tuna in cans were fine.
