I see Artscroll is running a sale 20% off and they also have 4 amazing book boxes for $89 each. I ordered the kids book box, I have lots of books that are included in the other boxes so I didnāt order any of those but itās a great value!
I ordered for myself āangels in Orangeā stories of hatzola during Oct 7

ADULT
Mazaltob by Blanche Bendahan. Not frum. Possibly the first feminist Sephardic book. 30's and finally translated. Hoping it won't be like Rashi daughters.
If you like Yiddish or languages Yinglish Yankee.
Non fiction

I didn't find much fiction this year, other than Trepid.

Yeah.
In general I was very unimpressed by what was available in the bookstores, both now and Chanuka time.

FrumBooks ( https://frumbooks.substack.com/)
has a newsletter put out every couple weeks, she has release roundups every season, reviews on new Frum releases (all age groups and genres).
Check out her reviews Sukkos and Chanuka time, those will probably be super helpful for you!

I have also been looking for books all year and could not find. Over the past few years I have read excellent medical type stories, all translated from Hebrew. One is called āIce Cubesā about a girl who needs a kidney transplant (author something like Shalovitsky but spelled funny). One was by Devori Rand about a girl with diabetes. And one was sad but inspiring - Petals and Thorns about Esther Klein who has ALS. I thought that these were striking and not often written in such depth in America, even for secular books. I also read a non- Frum book about a girl who overcame polio (Small Steps by Peg Kehret) and it was really good. (Iām not a doctor but these stories are inspiring in that people rise to the challenge of their lives). Also non- Frum but clean is a book about North Korea called āThe Girl with Seven Namesā and books like āNickel and Dimedā, āOn the Clockā and āNomadlandā which shows us how much we have to be grateful for just living a normal life every day BāH with food and lodgings.

Agreed, there are the thriller types but nothing for adults that prefer soemthing a little more realistic.
