Break it down for me like I'm stupid. My kids preschool is dismissing them early "for their safety". I'm not following the news and I don't have patience to. All I remember is last time, looking through a cereal box contraption.
What do I need to know practically if my kids are coming home at 2pm? Stay inside? Get special glasses? I'm more than happy to miss this entire thing. I just don't want to potentially danger eyesight?

With little kids I would just stay inside. No way to control them from looking at the sun which is very unsafe during an eclipse.

What about dismissal time for playgroups? How can we stay inside then?

I thought that's why they're dismissing early - so you can get inside? If not, then pick them up early anyway.

Chances are if you're playgroup or daycare isn't dismissing early then your not in an area where it matters.
Montreal is a totality zone and schools are dismissing before 2 or after 4:30

Yes if you look up at the sun. I would suggest keeping the shades drawn.

I usually pick up my baby from the babysitter then. Should I leave her a few extra hours to avoid that? Can I cover the car seat with a blanket and that would be enough? What about in the car itself- I'm not so comfortable leaving the blanket over the car seat without being able to see her and if it slipped and covered her face...

That's not true. My playgroup in NY is not dismissing early I assume due to lack of knowledge, I will still make sure to pick up my toddler early.

Don't assume the window shade has the right filter to be safe.
I wouldn't either pick up early or late

Trying to understand here. The sun has rays all the time. The issue is looking at the sun when it is blocked or partially blocked and you don't realize how strong the rays are. Simply being outside shouldn't be an issue. Am I wrong?

If it suddenly goes black in middle of the day I would think it's a natural reflex to look up at the sky
