ok, my dh asked me to post this anonymously...

DD is 2.5 and began potty training at the beginning of the summer. She's mostly there, although we are still having more accidents than I would like (which of course would be 0).

Since her diapers disappeared, however, we have found that she likes to put her fingers into her privates (which she now calls her privacy). She just like touching down there and TMI warning! then she smells her fingers etc.

We stop her when we see it and make her wash her hands telling her it isn't sanitary (in kiddie language) and she shouldn't do it, but she still does.

I shrug it to a phase, she'll get over it. But it REALLY bothers dh.

Any suggestions?

This can go on for years. People do suggest explaining to the kid that if they feel the need to touch, they should go to the bathroom. I don’t hold from it, other than just keep reminding, never scolding. They just end up doing in private instead of publicly with time. And eventually they stop (?).

my 5 year old still does this. I have managed to confine it to her bed, under the covers, as long as no one is in her room.

my 17 month old has been touching herself lately too & pulling her diapers off. I was going out of my mind, until I took her to the dr & discovered that she has a staph diaper rash that required antibiotics. I'm supposing that I can't really blame her.

My friend recently confided to me that her whole life she had uncontrollable itching and would scratch herself with anything she found. When she got married, she first learned the term ‘yeast’ and 14 years and lots of acidophilus later, she is a liberated woman. Cant harm to assume and try!
