Does anyone else find that the houseword basically gets neglected while toilet training?
I started toilet training my almost 2 and 1/2 year old on Tuesday. B'h she's responding well so hopefully she'll be back at playgroup soon but my house is a complete wreck!! (is that how you spell wreck?) I am constantly keeping my eye on her so that if she accidentally starts to make (she's running around naked) I can rush her to the toilet and I just can't get anything done. Don't even talk about my neglected 9 month old poor thing who I only look at for meals and when it's time to sleep.
Maybe I'm making too big a deal out of it. I don't know - she's my oldest. But b'h she seems to be catching on. I just find it exhausting!!
Another question, when she's running around without a nappy or panties she seems to be able to pick up that she needs to go but with the panties, she almost treats it like a nappy - even though she realizes right away what she's done. Do you think I'll have a problem getting her into panties once I'm confident that she knows the "signs"?

Think of this time as an investment. If the house is messy, at least you won't have to deal with messy diapers later.
I actually had the opposite experience. My house was cleaner because I took a few days off work and had to clean the floor of accidents and do more laundry. (my ds was tough to train, and the accidents made me laundry neurotic for a while). Meals can be tough. Make the night before when your child is in bed so you won't have to worry about cooking.
The child should be able to recognize the signs when wearing clothes, but be prepared for some accidents. My son regressed a few times, so maybe I'm not the best to advise...but once they really really want to, they will do it.

of course the housework is neglected during toilet trainig. it shoudl be! since you need to give training yoru all.
the way to train your daughter now not to treat her panties as a nappy is to spend one or two days having her check her panties every fifteen minutes and if it's dry, she gets a treat. if it isn't she has to take it off herself. that way she'll learn that it's supposed to stay dry.

I just trained my dd. I don't think I neglected the housework. I hate housework so I always try to avoid it. I just had more laundry than usual. Also my teething baby was more annoying than the mess my dd was making.

I just trained ds and yeah my house got a little neglected but it's just temporary and I caught up at night when the kids were in bed(although I was dead tired from all the running to the bathroom with him). I kept him in underwear and he had a few accidents but soon enough learned how to stay dry since he doesn't like to be wet.

Thank you Mama Bear for the great idea. I will definitely try it.
I don't find that the housework is suffering. It definitely takes longer to accomplish since every time ds announces that his "pishy is coming" I drop everything and ruuun!
