It's hopefully only one more day like this. Don't think of it as a month. Take off one day tomorrow if you need. Neck fans, extra recess outside in the shade, lots of cold water. The temp is supposed to cool down a lot next week. The teachers lounge has some ac, take a turn bringing your class in there.

Money is the least of their issues

Why can't they use the window units from the bldg that's being renovated?
I heardsomeclasses (all?) Got ice cream, frozen waterbottles...
It's not a sustainable system
It's at times like these that I'm so grateful I'm not a school administrator

The city didn’t allow window units, the school has a bunch.
They did give out icecream and water bottles.
(They will have to provide replacement water bottles every day because the water fountains don’t work 😢)

My mother is a public school teacher and she does summer teaching too and the NYC Public Schools don’t have a/c.

School without a/c is honestly horrifying. For both teachers and students. Not conducive to learning at all.

We have fans, but they do next to nothing except circulate hot air when it’s really hot

Personally I find the best way to fight the heat is to be wet.
I always imagine if I’d be stuck without a/c I would just make my family wet by either keeping them in the bath, putting on wet clothing, keeping a wet paper towel on my forehead, or using mist spray bottles.
Hand fans when wet help more as well.

I had no ac in school growing up and I honestly don’t remember anything this bad. It was really bad.

Guys I'm happy for all of you who had no a/c at your schools and were fine but OP is NOT fine! Different people have different levels of tolerance for heat. The fact that you were fine doesn't mean everyone will be!
(Also, it definitely gets hotter now than it did 20 years ago...)
