Now you know why he's my last baby
He was actually on a special formula which made him do this often, and I really struggled with it! To the neck every time. |
To the neck Every.Time?
I'm speechless

Not to mention the invention of bleach and then washing machine... |
But those plastic pants kept the stuff under control. I used them until my third was a year old. I used the old method.

For a good few weeks, maybe not every time. I was probably exaggerating but it was too much!

Oh, well, I suggested that, but the blowout diapers responded that I am either with them or against them. There is no middle ground (or diaper mat) here.

By the way, it has recently come to my attention that some people still don't know this: the stretchy necks or snap closures on modern day baby shirts and onesies (bodysuits) are not just to help them fit over the head easily. They also make it possible to pull the garment down to remove in case of disaster. |
Agreed! These are one of my favorite inventions, after the immersion blender and coffee. If I can convince DH that we should buy some brand new ones for the baby we are Bezras Hashem expecting, that would be a win. He prefers to use hand-me-downs or thrift store finds, which are often much older than the new and improved onesies.

This thread is hilarious.
Seriously speaking OP - is it that the diaper is wet when he goes #2 and that's why it blows out? If so than either a more absorbent diaper (Pampers overnights are great) or a diaper insert should be very helpful.
This was the case for my son. We switched to pampers overnights and at night I use the pampers overnight + a diaper insert. Almost never blows out.

My question is, why do the blowouts always happen only when the baby is wearing their cute new expensive outfits/sleepers, and never when they are in their old pajamas you don't care about anyways.
I don't buy my baby many expensive items, but they did have a few nicer sleepers for Shabbos (like $30 instead of 10) and those were always the ones that I had to scrub and scrub from blowouts.
One time the entire outfit was covered and there was only a few drips in the diaper itself. No idea how that happened. My baby must be very talented 🤷♀️

Have you heard of Murphy's law??
My 3 year old that's past bloweouts bh was sick and dirtied herself... But also decided she's big enough to do cleanup. She comes running and says mom, I wiped myself....
Slight problem dd was freshly bathed, my makeup was made as we were heading out the door to my sibling's wedding...
Did you know why they spray long last spray? Yep it's for mothers who bathe kids and wash toilet floors after accidents all dolled up!

This is so helpful! Thank you! I never heard of a diaper insert before. Generally, yes, blowouts tend to happen more when DC goes in a wet diaper. Sometimes he has a blowout though even when the diaper was put on him like 10 minutes earlier.

I wonder the same thing! Typically I avoid buying fancy outfits for that exact reason (also because they wear it for five seconds and then they outgrow it). We did get (as gifts) some elegant onesies when DC was born and aside from being extremely confusing to get on and off, they were more likely to get feces on them from having to be wrangled over his body to get them off.
The outfit being covered but diaper staying mostly clean, is a mystery indeed. I guess if the diaper was not on snugly enough, and baby managed to move the leg hole closer to the tush, that might be how most of the poop exited the diaper without staying in the diaper.
Actually, now that I remember it, I think we had that once, a relative decided to diaper DC, which was very thoughtful, except that said relative put the diaper on as loose as possible so it didn’t actually do much to keep things contained.🤦🏼♀️

I have a wonderful solution to diapers ( as a grandmother )
When we visit my daughter my husband gets whisky points for any dirty diaper ( blowout or not )
He changes the diapers and then on our way back to the states he can buy two bottles of whisky
My daughter loves it , when we come she doesn’t have to change a single diaper and neither do I

Great thread. Needed the comic relief.
Now here's a true story.
I went to hospital at 36 weeks cuz baby wasn't moving and I'm on a monitor for hours and DH who was home w kids calls me HYSTERICAL that the then youngest had a blow out and he couldn't handle it.
I'm like in the hospital on a fetal moniter and he is like but I need help.
Anyways, looking back we laugh, and we have a huge carpet stain as a souvenir and the kids like to tell a story about how tatty held screaming toddler under the shower. And BH my baby was fine
