Every year my very established rose starts off beautiful. It has many flowers and it is full of leaves. I get so many compliments. As the season progresses it becomes an eye sore. Leaves on the bottom become yellow with black spots, A lot of the leaves fall off. It becomes very bare looking.
It is not in a very wet area. It gets full sun every day.
What am I doing wrong?
I don't usually water it. Except this year, I tried 1 x per week this year but it does not seem to be helping.
Any advice???

Google says roses should be watered every few days.

Do you cut down in between seasons, or cut off some of the shoots in spring? Makes the shoots that are left fuller and focuses the energy to grow.
Fertilizers. switching out the earth with new earth. Maybe google ''what is wrong with my rosebush'' see what trouble shoot they give you.
